Noam Chomsky - Manufacturing consent. great doc

Tumbadora

A few posts under my belt
The classic Canadian documentary Manufacturing Consent based on the Noam Chomsky/Edward Herman book by the same name. Explores the the propaganda model of the media.

Noam Chomsky revolutionized linguistics and has been a political activist most of his life. Be warned it's almost 3 hours but very informative.

copy and paste this if it doesn't show up as a link:

May I mention Adam Curtis' excellent documentary The Power Of Nightmares at this point? Oh, I just did! The series of three 90 minute films goes a very long way to showing how American hegemony and the ensuing radical Islamic revolt has come to pass.

I had this on my rental list but no release date yet. Don't think I could watch something that long hunched over my computer :)

Ah memories.....
Yes that's what I thought .... at first ....
Then I tried to remember what I had learnt about Mr Chomsky, and apart from some people claiming that he proved an inate grammatical ability in humans, that had far reaching implcations for human pre-cognition and the possibility of a human soul, I couldn't remember a damn thing; it was 27 years ago... so I do have an excuse!

Has your PC got TV out? Although you will have to run seperate audio, which can be a pain. Otherwise, get either a stand-alone DIVX player (£30), or maybe a media centre external HD? They cost about £40 for the caddy, then the cost of the drive. Means as well as a USB hard disk, it also plays out to your TV and has a media centre type interface without being connected to your PC.

I have a full PC just to watch films on, although it rarely works nowadays :(

Unfortunately I don't have a PC at home so I'd have to watch it at my mum's! Will look into that when I get a PC though as it would be really useful.

Thanks for the info.
