I ♥ cryptic crosswords
In another post I may appear to have been sensible
This was in order to keep this website online and free to publish general sense and nonsense
When commenting on any police matter that has involved charges there are only a few things that can published by law
When commenting on any court case where restrictions have not been lifted there can only be the briefest of details published.
Publishing includes the internet
These details are generally related to the names, ages and addresses of defendants, those representing them and any dates for further appearances.
Anything other than this information could be construed as sub-judice and could be in contemp of court.
I would not wish to see any website host in court over comments that are likely to prejudice a court case and so ask that any comments on any future situation involving police charges and/or a court case, be made within the law
Publication of material which creates a substantial risk that the course of justice in the relevant proceedings would be seriously impeded or prejudiced is deemed to be sub judice and the courts have the powers if need be to shut down any site that publishes this information or heresay.
As an example: During a Crown Court hearing unless there are unusual circumstances, no mention of any previous convictions is permitted. Any knowledge that this type of information or similar may have been published could mean that the defendants were deemed to be unlikely to recieve a fair trial and the case in some extreme circumstances could be thrown out.
I would ask for the sake of all involved and for the continuance of this site that everyone respects this law
