Well I never...I wasn't sure whether to put this on the Bespoke Pies thread, on the rant thread where i recall someone slating the food at the Curry Kuteer (you'll see why), or on here, but as it's a photo of ye olde Stafford i think this is more suitable. It would seem that the people of Stafford have had a very healthy interest in all things pie for many many years. I found this pic of the Old Pork Pie Shop which stood where the Curry Kuteer loiters today. How dare they...

Wow, this forum is like my mind on the Internet - I love my Stafford nostalgia, and have never met anyone else that does!

I grew up in good old Stafford after moving from Great Haywood in 1985 and left for Uni in 2003....still go home and see the family (our council house is being sold and Mum has to move to 'The Crossings', which is apparantly where GEC used to be??), and every time I go back something's changed, usually for the worse :o(

Things I miss about Stafford from when I was a kid:

-Going into Star's on Friars Terrace to fill my pockets with sweets before going to the cinema
-Getting confused with the turnstiles in Riverside
-The tennis courts in the park (remember them?)
-Gazing into the window of Roy Townsends at the posh tellies
-Freeman Hardy Willis in August
-Dalans upstairs in The Guildhall, what a goldmine!
-Buying albums on cassette from Mike Lloyd Music on Salter Street
-Littleworth chippy, yum
-The number 13 bus on the Highfields (I gather they don't have 10, 11 or 12 anymore either?)
-The BRC factory, and the ghost I saw there when I was a kid
-Wolverhampton Rd dentists with the big mouth slide!
-Wasted days in the Whiteley Building at college
-Getting off the bus in Market Square
-The smell and noise of that fan thing by the gate in St Mary's Passage

Etc etc etc.....makes me want to be a kid again!

a whole shop dedicated to pork pies? i can completely understand why one might have a pie shop, but to specifically limit oneself to merely pork & its variants seems a bit of a missed opportunity..

that being said, i farkin love pork pies.. just saw a heavy seasonal pork pie with a cranberry lid in asda which looked the bizniz..

welcome, retrojoe :D

i see from your myspace that you are a fresher for the 4th time - good lad! i milked uni for all it was worth as well, staying there for a good 6 years and coming away with a meagre 2:2 BSc :v: i managed to get in before that hand puppet blair stuck his oar in, though, so it didn't cost me a penny - and i got a grant the whole time! good times :uk:

lol yeah, this was a weekly treat for me when i was younger.. i remember thinking that widescreen would never catch on, and couldn't believe the size of some of the TVs.. "32 inches?? behave!" lol..

it was like santa's grotto every day in that place.. it lost some of its magic when it left the guildhall imo..

i used to be a right mike lloyd zealot.. all the way through school i was into the usual megadeth, metallica, et al.. then, during my impressionable adolescent years, steve @ mike lloyd took it upon himself to introduce me to the wonders of industrial (ministry, front 242, frontline assembly, etc.).. from there he forced hardcore industrial techno upon me (ultraviolence, johnny violent, DOA, etc.) and that was the turning point.. i realised computers made better music than people, and i migrated from a cock rock queen to a drum n bass dj.. good times..

you're blatantly going to have to elaborate on this story

Yes, a ghost at the BRC!

It wasn't long after it closed, probably about 1993 or 1994. I was living in Silkmore at the time, and was cycling home from my mate's in Salt Avenue. It was a Sunday afternoon, just before dusk. I was riding along the pavement on the BRC side of Silkmore Road (in the days before those posh special red paths for bikes), and something caught my eye. I turned to see a doorway, filled with light (even though at that point all the electricity to the site was cut), with a hooded figure standing in it. I couldn't see a face either.

I froze, I couldn't look away. I carried on riding and the figure moved outside the doorway and craned its neck to watch me ride up the road.

I was only 10 or 11, I cycled home in tears. That sight is burnt onto my mind, I'll never forget it!

I have more Stafford ghost stories as well....wanna hear?

Dear lord! I want to hear more. I am soooo bored at work, a ghost storytelling thread would keep me awake!

Pizza and Red Wine, my god, stop torturing me!!

Currently i float around London's finest antique markets wheeling and dealing along the way. Unfortunately Saturday is the busiest day and London hours means i don't finish til 6. Arghhhh! I can seek comfort in the knowledge that straight after work i am hopping on the train back to old Stafford
town.

I will have to read up on Retrojoes paranormal activities some other time it seems.
