If they do any kind of kids club we’d go once or twice a month. Wouldn’t write off an annual pass either once we have less childcare costs.

Yeah, i used to have to go to Telford/Walsall/Newcastle/Uttoxeter but now i won't have to.

    Yay and hooray. But...

If you live in Newport will you go to Stafford or Telford?

If in Trentham, Stafford or Newcastle?

If in Penkridge, Stafford or Walsall?

If in Rugeley, Stafford or Uttoxeter?

It'll get the people of Stafford, but it won't get the people who aren't of. People won't choose to come here if they are not already here. Unless they are massive fans of paying for parking, which i have found generally they are not.

So can the people of Stafford and (close) environs support a multi-screen cinema?

I wouldn't put money on it, would you?

We will have to travel 6 miles but will come. You have to pay for parking at Telford too.

Parking at Vue newscastle and cineworld Hanley. In fact the quietest cinema I have come across over the last 18 months is odeon at festival park. That has free parking :)

Yep a whole pound in the evening, just the same as at Waterfront in Stafford.

I would suggest that if £1 for parking makes a difference to someone's decision as to where to watch a film taking into account the price of tickets, drinks, nibbles and possibly a meal before or after, then best stay at home and watch Ant and Dick on the telly.

    You pay for Telford Parking.

You pay for the foulest smelling parking in Newcastle.

You get your car broken into on the free car park for Odeon in Etruria.

You get your car broken into and, possibly stabbed, in Walsall.

The parking's free car in Uttoxeter.

    Big deal.

You can park for free at a lot of places in Stafford after 6pm and going to the cinema in daylight is an unnatural practice.

Indeed - Wilko's and Sainsbury's etc., are free though.

True but any incomers unfamiliar with thing might just assume they're all free after 6.

It is necessary to read the sign in any car park around here - lots of people get caught by assuming it'll be free on a Bank Holiday, etc...

I'm amazed they didn't put in an IMAX screen as part of the build....

I'm still baffled by the economics of this. Who puts 6.5 MILLION in to a cinema that charges approx 10 quid a ticket, some of which goes to the film distributor. How do you ever make a profit on such a big investment. If this place has 400 seats, most they can get per screening is 4000 quid even if every seat is sold, which it won't be ever! It doesn't add up to my mind and never will!

The council and an equally generous CI based developer, wasn't it?

Long term investment into a town that desperately needs something of this caliber.

If you wanted to see a movie on the big screen with decent sound, comfort and experience then your options were either Newcastle, Stoke, Telford or Bentely bridge, at a push Uttoxeter....Fair play to the Apollo cinema for re-opening and keeping the historical building going, but its cold, uncomfortable and the sound in there is dolby mono gramaphone at best.....not the cinematic experience I want to see a film on the big screen when for the same price they charge, you can have the quality of the Odeon/Vue/ cineworld etc.....

With this investment from Odeon into the town it will hopefully prevent Staffordians having to travel to said locations and spending there money there...instead they can be spending in to the town and generating revenue to not just the cinema, but with also local businesses / bars / eateries.

Forget the enconomics of the the investment and the return by screen etc....just embrace and enjoy it. Let the council or managemet of the venues worry about the economics of it all.

The link enclosed is for the economics of a small independent 3 screen cinema.
It shows that it’s possible to make profit of nearly half a million from seat revenue at £6 a ticket, food and drink sales, and advertising revenue.

A large multi screen cinema with seats at £13, its higher advertising revenue and food and drink sales should surpass that figure.

Like @Entropy has said, people will be spending their money not only there but in the surrounding shops, bars and restaurants.
A great addition to the town, I’m really looking forward to it.

...but if they aren't ever gong to sell out 400 seats then why make it 800?!
