Old furniture shops

Hi, I have just bought my first house and need some furniture. I quite like old furniture (plus I cant afford brand new!) but the antique shops I have looked in have been way too expensive! So, does anyone know of any shops that sell cheap secondhand furniture? When I lived in Cheltenham, the charity shops seemed to be full of furniture starting at about £20, but Staffords charity shops dont seem to be like this! I could travel to Stoke/Cannock if anyone knows any good shops!
Thanks

The Hospice has a warehouse up by the tip which has a high turnover of furniture and other larger items that the shops can't handle - worth a look. There can be items at the boot sale on the Common, too.

There are also furniture items in the Hospice shop in Eccleshall.

It used to be quite cheap at the hospice warehouse but the prices have gone up considerably since it opened.

Thanks for so many responses so quickly! I will be heading to the hospice by the common this afternoon then, and maybe out to Eccleshall afterwards!

As Hetairoi says, the prices aren't quite 'junk shop' prices these days, but if you see what you want then you just have to make your mind up...

Yeah, I found the hospice place a bit pricey considering it was all donated. Plus they turn a lot of stuff away, we had to throw loads in the tip that they wouldn't take.

Yeah, I've got a garage full of stuff waiting to go on Freegle.
Did anyone mention that? Free stuff, but you need to offer something to get you started.

I think it depends, they turned away a perfectly good 17" CRT monitor, but then Im not surprised as it had had no interest on freecycle - they did take the battered office chair though, which no one had wanted on freecycle / Freegle so I suspect they know what can be sold, and what is just going to sit there - and since they don't have limitless space (there isn't a warehouse for the warehouse after all) it makes sense.

I suspect Katherine House, as well as other charity shops, know the market exceedingly well (apart from our Oxfam, which chronically under prices cook books - but then they do over price clothes) - even if it's more expensive then it used to be, it's still the cheapest way to kit out a house in that eclectic, slum landlord aesthetic...

Gumtree & Ebay are worth a look too - but it helps to be looking for more specific things there.
