Looking for local knowledge about old stations surrounding Stafford.

Particularly Cotes Heath area and Norton Bridge.

I've just done a Google search and not coming up with any pictures for Cotes Heath, any chance any of you lovely folk know of any?

Was Cotes Heath station actually called Standon Bridge Station?

Still no pictures of it, though. Yet.

Only one little one, so far.

It closed in the early 50s, there won't be many pictures...

Beware of finding pictures of Standon Station, in Hertfordshire.

Where was it then?

I always thought Standon was up the hill and away from the railway, was there a station in Cranberry?

If you go house hunting in the area your local agents details always manage to include Norton Bridge as a local station

It's been fenced off from any potential commuters since 2004

The Railway pub is now boarded up too

By the north side of the bridge, near the mill.

St James's church has coffee mornings, usually the second Saturday, I think, you might find a long-term oldie there with some knowledge.

There was sometimes a bit of local politics in the naming of stations, often to placate the local gentry.

Norton Bridge is still officially a station or at least was until recently. I read a notice around Feb time, at Stone station, advising of Norton Bridge's formal closure later in the year but I can't remember which month it was proposed to close it.

I think it is or was being served by a subsidised bus service as per Barlaston and Wedgwood.

Between Norton and Standon was Badnall Wharf station, with connections to Cold Meece station, below..

Proposal was to close it on or after October 15th this year. Consultation still being assessed, I understand.

If you want vanished stations to the south of Stafford there are always Four Ashes and Gailey

Out of interest is there's a map or where all these lines were - possibly superimposed over current maps - I just can't visualise them all in my head.

I also spotted this today

For those in the Stafford community who use the old railway between Stafford and Newport (Stafford To Newport Greenway) we have a dedicated page.

The greenway is also part of the 111 mile long National Cycle Network Route 55 from Preston, Lancashire to Coalport Near Ironbridge, Shropshire.

Also part of the 41 mile long distance walking route called the "Way for the Millennium".

Heritage photos and information about the old railway can be found in the links below-

Old cine films of the railway in the links below-

The photos below are of the A518 bridge at Sandybank, Coton just outside Gnosall and are current of the location and reproduced in black and white for effect.

Please like and follow me if you wish. Thank you for your support it is much appreciated.

A good bit of Sandon Station survives, including the covered archway*, so his Lordship could have his carriage parked out of the rain.

Seen better here, a while ago, before stuff had grown up so much.

Thanks to @ChrisLewis for temporary use of his car park just now to get the current picture.

There was also a station at Weston.
