On the look out for...

... a tablet < £100, preferably as considerably less so as is feasible.

Just needs to be as easy to use as possible, for the clumsiest fingers imaginable - not mine, i hasten to add, though i am in possession of some of the crappest fingers anyone could unwish for - with minimum of specs.

Wi-fi, Play Store, that kind of thing only - no extravagant 'extras' a deal-sealer.

Could anyone wang a deal my way on this remit by the end of the week?

Time is a bit of the essence, though by the middle of the week after would also be acceptable.

If it's for someone with clumsy figures then you need the screen to be as big as possible. How about these?

A couple of caveats:

1 I've never dealt with either company so I don't know if they are any good.
2 A new tablet for substantially less than £100 is likely to be complete shit and a total frustration to use, whatever the screen size.

Zavvi occasionally have reconditioned Nexus 7s in for less than £100. They don't today, but might be worth keeping an eye on. But if time is of the essence...

I've used a fair few tablets and I have to say there are some that will just infuriate you, but the first generation nexus 7 still in my eyes outperforms the newest Samsung offerings by a fair margin. I have the newer nexus 7 myself but that costs more.

Cheers ears-es.

Blimey, that last one is only £37! All the reviews seem very favourable, are they to be taken with a pinch of salt?

It all depends what you want to do with the tablet. If it's only a bit of internet and email then it will probably be OK. I'd imagine playing videos or much in the way of multitasking would be an exercise in frustration though.

I agree without tek about the screen being the main issue on cheaper ones. For example, I bought my younger kids some cheap chinese android phones for christmas... about £40 I think. The keyboard cant type as fast as on an expensive phone due to the screen not being as responsive. Also, things tend to take longer to load. Having said that, once loaded, they happily stream videos really smoothly and play most games quite happily too.

You do get what you pay for, but essentially even the cheaper ones do the job for the simple tasks. However if you can afford to spend a little more then do so. I'd personally not bother with a £37 one, and go for something closer to the £100 mark if you can afford to.

Right so...

The clumsiest of fingers have all ready managed to completely banjax the screen - i managed to find a 2nd hand Asus Memo Pad for £70 by the way - so more advice needed.

  1. Is it possible to just replace the touch-screen?
  2. Is there somewhere that this can be done en ville?
Thanx once more in advancx.
