Already?

I've not seen anything on the news, and we've been following it pretty closely as my sister-in-law's expecting them to bring her back from Turkey on Tuesday.

The Beeb suggest any announcement will come later this evening when all their planes are on the ground (like they did with Monarch).

Announcement will come when planes grounded. No obligation to say anything until the stock exchange opens at 7.00am

Hotels in the US have already been informed

Wet-leasing specialist airlines (for rescue flights) en route to UK, at request of Civil Aviation Authority.

Thomas Cook probably had almost £2billion worth of debts

A group of hedge funds blocked the rescue plan because it would stop them from cashing in on holdings of credit-default swaps that pay out when a company defaults

These hedge fund types will also make an absolute mint when if the UK dumps out of the EU which is why your Rees Mogg and Farage types are so excited

Ah if only I hadn't booked and paid for those flights to Las Vegas. On the plus side initial payment was on my credit card.

ETA I was in Lincoln a few days ago, on a tour of the castle, and they said that the first Thomas Cook tours were from Leicester to see the hangings at Lincoln Jail. Strange I can't find any mention of it on t'internet.

First Thomas Cook trip was 1841 from Leicester to Loughborough for a temperance meeting. Over 500 people made the return trip but relatively few attended the meeting, most went for the unique experience of a train ride. Most of his early outings were for temperance societies, Sunday schools & the like. His first purely commercial outing was in 1845 to Liverpool.

When I go to visit my son in Leicester, I drive past the first ever Thomas Cook travel agent.

He gave me the history when I first visited Leicester and it’s been a landmark for me ever since.

I’m totally conflicted in that while I’m incredibly sad at the loss of history, the first ever travel agent, and of course the loss of jobs, I’m guilty of not using High street travel agents.
I can’t remember the last time I booked a package.
We’ve always booked flights, hotels, cruises, airport car parks, airport hotel stays, etc ourselves.

Well, my sister-in-law got back alright on an overnight flight, probably about six hours after her original scheduled ETA.

As far as I can tell, that magical phenomena 'Performance Related Pay' doesn't apply to CEO's, or smaller limpdick EO's for events such as this. If it did, they'd leave the company in debt, rather than a thick wad of cash! Seems to me we should be building guillotines, keep a few chippy's in a job at least. :heyhey:
