Little Egrets are becoming something of a regular bird around Stafford, albeit in ones and twos. Despite being relatively large and white, they can sometimes do a good job at hiding in amongst the vegetation. They have slowly colonised this country over the last 30 years or so, being one of a number of species which is expanding its range northwards.

Haven't been out for a proper scan for a while now. A few months ago, after a visit to the Chase, i put my binoculars on the car roof while i put some other stuff in the car. You can probably guess the rest...

The one that i saw was heading toward the Marshes from the south - i assume to roost? - so presumeably had spent the day elsewhere. Love the way their legs are outstretched behind them in flight - skinny little legs. * hold up, that's not a heron *

Strangely enough I'd just parked up on Sainsbury's car park, at 12:15 today, just in time to see a Little Egret flying over the Lamb towards the Marshes.

The swans are at it again, down at the Castlefields balancing lake. Just 5 signets this year! That'll teach them do change their nesting spot! Not in the middle of the Lake this year, but by the footpath on the opposite side to the rugby club? :crossarms: Of course the offspring may not have been predated, but seemed like an odd choice to me.:xd:
No sign of anything else!

(Well the cerebrally challenged wide is not casting his net very wide! Ed)

If changing water levels are a problem, then rafts can be the way forward - http://www.rte.ie/news/2015/0527/704257-swans/ .

Finally saw two Swifts together today, sort of enough for the making of a summer, but hardly a resounding one.

I recall Mr. M commenting on a surfeit of Swallows somewhere nearabouts some moments ago, but i'm yet to see much in the way of Swallow/Martin/Swift action thus far personally. Where are they all?

Nesting under the eaves of my house & shitting all over my car (front of house) & clean washing (back of house) - although I've only seen them twice.....can hear the noisey buggers though.

Have seen a wonderful pair of Bullfinches down on the lines recently, actually, I've seen them a couple of times. I'm happy about this as they are my favourite birds and are on RSPB amber list.

Also yesterday i saw my first pair of Martins en ville - are they actually late, or am i wishing them forward?

For the last few years there have been a few nesting in town - a couple of nests in the eaves of Oddfellows Hall down the Tipping Street side, and one or more in those above what houses River Island.

There may be more that i have missed?
