SFs are defo eclair (i remember because theyre one of my fav cream cakes)- 2.1 i think...
I've not been able to get my SF to connect to exchange either.
I've been going:
settings>accounts & sync> add account then on everyone else with android phones there is an exchange account type available whilst on my SF there isn't I've googled it and it just has people saying to go to either the place I've been going and theirs magically seems to have exchange or else go to a mail app which I don't have but which theirs seems to have come with as standard... If anyone comes up with anything let me know too!

I cant find the original article with the app I dont have in but:

http://www.knowyourmobile.com/otherbrands/Orange/orangesanfrancisco/sanfranciscouserguides/625371/setting_up_email_on_the_san_francisco.html suggests "mail" which seems to be an orange app which is on my phone. I've stayed away from it as I've tried to avoid orange as much as possible on my phone but when I have tried it it always wants to "validate phone number" (dont know what my phone number has to do with my work emails...) and then after a few minutes or trying errors. Not sure why - I've not unlocked the phone, it's still on orange... but I dont want to be using orange apps anyway!

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-blade-modaco-com/319177/help-with-hotmail-microsoft-exchange/#entry0 suggests K9 mail - I'll take a look at this when I get a chance. Mixed reviews though, I just dont get why there isnt an exchange option in the add accounts section of the android settings...

Ah, damnit! Pretty sure it's 2.1, but it has orrid Orange branding all over it. He's only had it a week if that helps?

The weird thing is when you try to make an account, it asks you what service to use (yahoo, hotmail etc.). Mine doesn't, it starts with an email address and password. I can't seem to find the 'real' mail client, just this crappy orange one.
Oh, i would look on my desire hd, but it appears to have bricked itself. going back to the orange shop tomorrow - symptoms are non response to any inputs, won't boot, won't charge, and an orange flashing light.

tried the bulk of forum based suggestions of taking the battery out etc. with no avail. hopefully they'll just replace it.

The SGS2 looks very nice.

I have the LG Optimus 2x and its a great phone except for the dog sh*t LG software which kills it.

The customised roms are slowly sorting that out though.

presently in the market for the individuals having requirements like browsing, gaming, watching videos, music and capturing videos, images all in one can be fullfilled by the new version of wildfire legacy ie htc wildfire s as it has got 3.2-inch touch screen with 320 x 480 display resolution and has Gingerbread Android 2.4 version OS with special htc sense technology ie TouchFLO 3D user interface. Its an advanced version of wildfire legacy as previous version had only android 2.1 or 2.2 Eclair or Froyo version. Truly it rocks..

Hi jemmymoore78, welcome to Stafford Forum! I nearly deleted you as a spambot, but I see you are coming at us live from within the UK, and your posts contains no links, so now I don't know what to think. :P

Have you got an HTC Wildfire S? Can you let us know your personal experiences?

Thanks. :)

hello admin i dnt know why u think im a spambot i have jst shared my views abt my phone as i owe htc wildfire but thinking to make a step ahead by buying htc wildfire s(ap per its specs on its official htc site) and i am really surprised abt htc releasing new phones with higher android os(mentioned above in my comment) as compared to other brand phones trying to match its capabilities and like to mention this is my own views and it needs not to be necessarily implied on every1 as its a matter of choice :) ..thnks for notfiying so shud i consider it as a warning... :|

Please don't take it personally; I was just letting you know that for a moment my finger was hovering over the "delete" button and I nearly blasted you into oblivion! It was my mistake; thankfully one that I didn't end up making. :)

Problem with the Wildfire was HTC got a bit too big for their boots and charged far too much for it... then then Orange San Francisco / ZTE Blade came out and absolutely pulverised it.....

Can't comment on the Wildfire S as not used it or heard much about it but given how far the San Fran was ahead of the original Wildfire, I wouldn't be surprised it the S was just a "catch up" phone.

i'd never heard of it either, but funnily enough someone asked me to recommend them a cheap & decent android deal t'other day.. natch, my first port of call was HUKD, whereupon i found this ridonkulous deal:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/new...gingerbread-available-black-white-free/932094

HTC Wildfire S
£20 a month
only a 12 month contract

so even if you hate the phone, it's only £20 a month for an android 2.3 device, and you're not locked into a 24/18 month contract.. 12 month contracts are practically unheard of these days, let alone for £20/month!

The poster from HUKD said:
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS FOR THE NEWER HTC WILDFIRE S AND NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH THE OLDER LOWER SPEC STANDARD WILDFIRE.
it addresses all the problems with the wildfire, apparently.. double the screen resolution, etc..

The San Francisco 2s are out. I dont think I like the look of them - shiny plastic fingerprint magnets - but it seems to address all the things that my san fran is bothering me on nowadays - slow to respond (which I think is down to processor) lack of internal memory (and due to Android 2.1 I cant save apps to the SD card) and poor quality camera (which I didn't think would be an issue at the time - but compared to vault boy's iPhone I'm bitterly disappointed). It also has a flash - which I think would massively help the SF1's camera - a higher res camera AND a small VGA camera on the front too. I might be willing to give up looks for functionality.

But there are also the Orange Monte Carlos which seem pretty good too. Similar spec to the SF2 but I think slightly better (I can't remember what is better on it but whatever it was made me think it worth the extra £25) no front facing camera though.

There's also some other fairly cheap smart phones. The HTC wildfire S I think is one.

I'll have to do some more research tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone has any of the above and can comment on them. I'm seriously thinking of upgrading as my SF1 is getting a bit poorly now - I used to keep telling myself it's a smart phone for 5th of the price of some phones but it's almost unusable now for most of the time. Though maybe nothing a factory reset wouldn't fix? anyway. I'd be looking for a smart phone in the region of £100. maybe £150 if it was REALLY worth it. Are there any others I should be looking at? I'm currently on month 3 or 4 of a 12 month £7.50/month sim only contract with orange so am really looking at the ones orange offer but given the mahooosively bad customer service I've had from orange I might pass it on to my dad or someone and look at other providers instead.

so... anyone got any recommendations?

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
I'd recommend an iPhone... but seeing as you don't want to spend that sort of money, I have heard good things about the HTC Wildfire S. A couple of friends have them and are extremely happy with them.

So, I say you ought to buy an iPhone ;)

My phone's doing that thing again where I get silence on my end, but the caller can hear me (swearing at my phone, mostly).

@proactive s suggestion of switching to Google phone worked up untill the last week or so & now I'm back to square one. Anyone have any suggestions, I have a Samsung Galaxy a22

Try going into Settings, Apps, find Google phone and clear cache. Either that or uninstall Google phone and reinstall it. Got to be worth a try.
