Posting a bike using Royal Mail

I am trying to post a mountain bike. It is in a box which is about 1.45m long by 1m high, weighs 15kg. It should cost using standard royal mail parcel tarif £14.97. I tried to mail it this morning at the small post office near my work in Abbots Bromley but the postmaster said it is too big for him to deal with. Does anyone know if I went to a larger post office they would accept it. Or is my only option to get a courier to pick it up? Courier equals me hanging around all day for them to pick it up which is no fun.

When the postmaster declined it in the morning, I came up with another plan. At work by 4.30pm ish everyday we have a postie who collects mail. So I boxed it up and bought a standard parcel stamp, and lucky for me the postie took it, no questions asked. The box did measure 1.35m long, 15kg in weight, however total max girth was 3.1m. So the parcel is 10cm over. I just hope they deliver it – fingers crossed.

What bike was it mate?

It wasn't an ebay sale was it, because you don't get a signature on standard parcels so I forsee potential for a paypal chargeback.

It was an ebay purchase which I wanted to return. The seller hasn't received it, now I am worried. I sent it Thursday.
