Potential Riverside Development

Interesting potential development from SCC:

http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/news/press/keyriverwaysitecouldbecomestaffordshiresmostambitiousretirementvillageproject.htm

A quite interesting use for one of the 17 sites to be vacated as part of the Tipping Street/Staffordshire Place development.

My guess for this site was housing or another retail park. This has got to be a better use?

I think the Big Society is more like "build your own retirement chalet, then look round for mugs/volunteers to support it for free"!?

Lots of house building in a credit crunch or will they be social housing or even good old council houses

There is little money in social housing and the councils are making too many cuts to build new council places (despite the obvious long term savings).

From the Castleworks meeting yesterday, someone did ask about social housing and the answer was that there would be some form of such and it was likely to be in the form of joint / shared ownership.

Suppose that makes sense in terms of it costs the government less.

i think this is a great use of the land, thank the lord (if it gets the go ahaed) that it's not used for another giant supermarket, 2up2downs or zoddin' retail units!!

i heard that this space was going to be a Lidyl or an Aldi, i get the two mixed up now, so i'm glad of this particualr development.

...though, the down side is that, no doubt the majoirty of the trees that line Riverway will be chopped down just incase a twig (reference to 'tree cull?' posts) falls on to some poor unsuspecting OAP resident who has a huge urge to sue a County council for a gazillion pounds.

Aldi are currently building in Stone. On this site.
That's where the 4x4 place used be innit? Wouldn't fancy tryin get out of there in an evening way traffic belts down the A34. Don't suppose there was owt else closer to town tho,Morrisons have about the best spot.

The junction is being altered considerably, so I'm sure they will make it easier to get out of. Don't know if they are installing traffic lights (I seriously hope not, they've already tried their hardest to destroy the A34, once one of the most major roads in the country), but whatever they do, I'm sure it will impact on the main road in some way.

Well, I think it was the old 4x4 site, and I think the sign said it would be an Aldi, but I was threading my way through the cones at the time...

I wonder if there will be an Asda/Queensway-style traffic-light controlled junction?

There is just no need! GRRRR! I don't see why they can't have the same arrangement as Tesco in Uttoxeter which is a similar road layout albeit 1 lane instead of 2.

Further details are now available on the following page:

http://www.staffordshire.gov.uk/yourcouncil/consultationandfeedback/riverway/

Including the all important feedback form.

Taking a look at the PDF of the plans, it shows junction improvements at the Riverway, Corporation Street, Weston Road, Lammascote Road junction.
