QotD - Irrational Fears

In an effort to get more contributions to the mighty stafford forum, and get everybody posting im ripping of a B3TA idea to get everyone to post their 'humourous' stories. I feel this could be the thread that rockets gon2seed into stafford points glory.

This week, Irrational Fears. What are yours, and what happened when it flipped you upside the head one time?

For me, i have a fear of things breaking when in a potentially 'dangerous' situation. IE when flying, im not scared of the height, im scared of the wings falling off.

The last time i can recount this was when i was in spain with miss upsetter, jimbob and panders.
We decided to go to Aqualandia in Benidorm an hour or so away where we staying. Theres a massive slide and you could see the muthafarker from about 15 miles away. Needless to say i was very excited. When we got there we went on loads of different slides, and made our way slowly round the park to where the mother bitch slides were. There was about 4 slides in total in this section of the park, going from a 'smaller' wavy helter skelter type, to a vertical tube in the clouds that people shot out of half way down. It looked like people were getting a good bum hole cleansing with the sheer velocity.
We decided to start off slowly and to go on the smallest, which was the helter skeltery one. The only problem was that it had those slatty steps, which were basically thin concrete planks, with gaping hoples between the steps, looking down to the 100 odd foot drop on to a nice rock garden.
Miss upsetter was fine, but me and jimbob were papping ourselves, him from the height, and me from my mistrust of spanish architecture and building methods. We managed to drag our asses up the steps, clutching each other like the big girls we were, whilst small children ran past us up the stairs with delight. The slide was great fun when on it, but there was no way i could bring myself to climb the further 400 foot up to the massive slide.

Whats your irrational fear?

Sorry to dissappoint Rich but this has me stumped,
I am certainly not fearless, ...

I fear: long term illness, harm to my wife and children, Tony Blair, Rangers going down, global catastrophe, Lionel Blair, David Cameron, Fred Pritchard, Mr Keates (my old metal work teacher), fire, extreme confined spaces, large excitable horses, large ferocious dogs, predatory females (especially large ones with fireman fixations, the nurse who took my 30th pint of donated claret two nights ago fell into this category!!! scareeeeee!), ...

I fear my kids won't grow up happy, or that they won't grow up at all ...

Large or small men with love 'n' hate, or mam 'n' dad, home done tattoos on their knuckles, a swaztika tattoo on their forehead, and that look in their eyes ...

Driving a car in Turkey/Italy/Crete, in fact just about anywhere they drive on the wrong side of the road!

Swimming way out in the sea and suddenly having a Jaws flashback moment.

I fear not being liked by just about everyone, even those I don't really like, ... I fear being alone ... I fear not leaving some mark on the world ...

So basically I am wracked by a veritable plethora of fears, but non of them are, it seems to me, irrational.

I fear Utd going the way Leeds did. And that's a possibility due to a mounting debt.

Other than that I have a fear of heights, flying, someone stapling my eyes shut, being cornered by a gang of hungry bears and one or two from gon2seed's post.

I am a very nervous man. Full of anxiety.

"QotD" can mean "Quote of the Day", or "Question of the Day" it seems.. I assume rich upsetter means the latter!

I like the idea of this thread.. Might be worth summarising the QotD in the thread title, though - otherwise we'll just end up with a page of threads, all called simply "QotD"!

I've edited this thread title accordingly.. rich upsetter, if you would rather a different title just PM me :)

As for my irrational fears? The only thing I fear is someone walking in the server room at my host and accidentally typing rm -r -f * in the root directory :v:

i have an irrational fear of very drunk people.. as in, people who are so drunk they literally cannot stand or form the most basic of words..

i have a phobia of vomit, and if i see someone so drunk they are slumped in a corner, as good as dead, my natural assumption is that they're going to start spraying hideous, chunky vom in 360° at any given moment..

Surely it's not totally rational to be scared of Lionel Blair.
On the contrary, I would argue that, it is not totally rational NOT to be scared of Lionel Blair

It's not very interesting, but I have an irrational fear of maggots and mushrooms. I think it's because of the texture of them, there's something sinister about it. I can't go near them.

I've just remembered that one of my friends has a much better phobia - midgets. She gags when she sees them on TV, which I think is a bit harsh, but apparently it's a genuine phobia. I hate to think of how that one came about.

I hate mushrooms. I also hate the texture. And the fact they taste like mud.

What is it with mushrooms and people?

Fears, though none considered to me as irrational. Flying(gets harder each time), needles/injections this is the worst by far. Dogs, any breed they all terrify me. The sea, don't go in it. Heights, can't climb a step ladder. Submarines, war planes and chinnuks .

On sight, my response to all these is the same :barf:

I have never been keen 'shrooms either of any variety especially when cooked and they spew out that evil black shiz all over your fry up! Over the past year or two however, i have come to accept them as a acceptable form of cuisine. Obviously not on their own but when mixed into something! Not really irrational though. I just didn't like the taste but as i get older and wiser (!?) they are not so bad.

My own irrational fears? None i can think of, bit too sensible for that! If i'm gonna fear something then there has to be dayam good reason for it. If i think of any i'll let you all know!
