Garages don't make any money for doing mots, just the work the needs doing to pass it

Phil at Hi-Q is pretty decent, fair, honest and thorough too. Had my last 5 MOT's there.

Took Percy Puma for his last MOT at Tollgate. Cheaper if you book online. But as @Alee says, they only make the money, from the work done needed to get the car thru the MOT.

Always read the small print - we got caught out a few years ago with a 'half price MOT' from Halfords.

The catch is the cost doesn't cover a re-test - so if you're confident it'll pass first time - WIN.

But if it fails then you have to pay again to get it re-tested.

For any car services I will always recommend AA Silencers!

The county council carries out MOT tests. They don't carry out repairs so can't profit from making up problems.

In Ireland, the National Car Test is done at centres throughout the country by whoever holds the current franchise - they do the test and that's it. It's no skin off their nose if it passes or fails and it's up to you to just get it fixed anywhere you like, if it does fail.

It's much less open to "interpretation" and abuse.

I still always rely on AAsilencers, always do me well, at a reasonable price - and they are happy to advise on way's to bring the parts cost down.

Not relevant to the current enquiry, but Len Proudlock did a bit for me, back in the old days and was always good for some entertainment along with it.

If you have an established relationship with Astonfields why change ? Personally I'm suspicious of garages that offer 'loss leader' discount MOT's.
I've used FMS on Foregate for years and always found them fair.

Yet another reason to avoid Halfords servicing place.
