Recycling changes...

I'm not paying the council a single penny more as they continually reduce the services they offer. What happens to the brown bin now? I'd be happy to have one less bin cluttering up my property.

Says you get to keep it, as they won't be collecting unwanted ones .

So what exactly do we pay council tax for now when we have to separate our recycling ourselves, pay for garden waste collection, etc?

It certainly doesn’t go on the roads

Maybe we shouldn't have to pay for it, but let's not lose sight of the thing the government really want us not to know. Councils are underfunded that much that they now have to run as businesses. It's likely in 5 years time or so that they won't get any central government funding. So ask where your income tax is going, rather than your council tax.

Won't stop everyone blaming the council of course.

I may have missed this but when is the last opportunity for my brown bin to be emptied without signing up please.

'Pay twice for your brown bin to be emptied otherwise it will be YOUR FAULT that we can't provide key services' says Councillor Jonathan Price.

No it isn't our fault, it's the government of the last 10 years who is to blame for continual underfunding of councils.

Actually I blame the people who voted this Conservative shower of shit in, but given the people of Stafford also voted in a Conservative council I think its quite fair to blame them.

This is what the people of Stafford voted for, why don't they make the connection? Its a bit rich moaning about something you voted for in my opinion

Enjoying a drop of red.
Never used the brown bin since we moved to this house. Everything either gets composted or taken to the tip in the trailer.

It's essential for my elderly parents though. Ideally it would continue to be part of the existing waste collection arrangements but 69p per week isn't a deal breaker.

Our compost heaps are overflowing, and I don't like to put the weeds in there. It's going to cost me a lot more than £36 a year to go to the tip a couple of times a month (our brown bin always full) so it's a no brainer. I managed to fill the green bin with garden waste this week too.

Anything that isn't compatible (I do compost weeds) gets chucked in the trailer until it's full or I just fancy a run out. I think I've done three tip runs this year. Mind, the trailer does have a 2.5 ton payload.

Let's not let facts and statistics get in the way of some people have a good moan

Facepalm all you like. I stated a fact when I said ‘some people’.

It’s less than a quid a week for something we are have already paid for within council tax and now they want to charge us again. I haven’t decided whether I will pay for it as I hardly use the brown bin. As it seems like I can put garden waste in the green bin, I will most likely use that. Or when needed, I will go up to the tip/recycling centre.

I’m lucky as I could afford to pay the new charge but without any doubt, there will be lots of people who can’t. Where does this leave them?
