Sorry to hear that :(

Been threatened with it several times but always survived, the worst being the one you helped me with. Another round going on here at the moment (nearly 30% of staff!) but I've been told I'm safe this time.

Main things to consider I guess are how long you've been there and what package are they offering for you to leave quietly? If nothing above statutory is offered then don't go accept VR, and see how long you can string it out. I would say go and see citizens advice, can you take time out of your day to advise yourself on how to proceed?

I've always been sacked or told to leave or I would be sacked, so I missed out on any payments, however pathetic they might be now after two Tory Governments

Tip

List all your positive transferable skills and qualities now .

Better still get a friend to list them with you

You won't always realise what you have done, what you can do, and what more you can turn your hand to in the future

Stay active
Stay in touch with people
Get out the house even on the wettest coldest days

Enjoying a drop of red.
I was made redundant 15 years ago. After the initial shock I decided to view it as an opportunity and set up my own business. I've never looked back.

Chin up, big smile, it's the start of the next step :)

I had a 'proper job' once - I came to the conclusion that it is a form of self-harm.

Current Mission Statement is...

What I want, When I want, For who I want.

I went through it in 2008. It was awful, I loved my job and the people I worked with. Now I am glad as my career path has been great.

Sorry to hear that @arthur :(

Been through the threat of redundancy myself several times in GEC and not a nice atmosphere in the workplace while they were going on. Hubby has also survived several rounds of redundancies in his place over the years. Gone from over 110 employees in his Stafford works when he started 25 years ago , to about 10 people working there now. Fingers crossed he can hang on a bit longer yet :hmm:

When I was at the Go Easy Club, it was rare for there not to be a redundancy programme in progress.

Their main output was ex-employees, it seemed to me.

GEC was once the largest private employer in the country - and was systematically buggered by those 'at the top'.

Not shut down, but scaled down a lot, more pressure on the lovely dedicated volunteers without experienced specialists or good supervisors . Im thinking of voluteering for age concern cause we will all need them someday

This deserves more recognition. Top marks.

I reckon i've got one year, at best two, until i'm in the same boat.

(will you stop saying that Withnail, the only thing i've been in that you've been in is this f**king bath!)

I don't know what i'll do, but i'll have to do something.

I shall have to start scheming.
