AT LAST M6 roadworks complete (but 50 mph limit stays)

Highways England last night said the roadworks would be removed and the fourth lane opened by Monday morning. David Cooke, project lead for Highways England, said: “We are opening this road to traffic with four lanes available while we test the technology at a reduced speed limit. “The test will allow us to gather reliable traffic data and calibrate the technology systems along this stretch."

I'm going down it on Monday morning so will see if it really is fully open, or if they've suddenly discovered something else needs doing. Cones were still there today but no work going on.
Also got signs today on the J13 Sliproads saying they are closed overnight next week . Can't remember whether it said 6-8th Feb or 8th-10th , but something like that..... ( Conveniently forgot to mention that on the report on the link above)

Since the m6/m5 slip road work was completed before Xmas, my drive to j2m5 has been fantastic. Clearing these roadworks out of the way won't make as big a difference but it will be good....

I know they'll make a fortune from the new style speed cameras....

Midlands Today implied that the cones were being removed but that some work was continuing.

I am always amused by the people who travel well over the speed limit and brake frantically for the cameras when there are signs that advise you that it is an average speed zone

The idiots out there won't trigger that the cameras are on the far side of the gantry rather than over head, and painted grey....

with these new cameras on far left will they be able to see your number plate if you pass a lorry on the right as you pass the camera. also the government has insisted these must all be painted yellow before end of year to help the speeders out

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
The cones have indeed gone on the M6 but unfortunately the 50mph speed limit is still in place.

Worthy to notice, that it appears that all the overhead gantry speed cameras from M6 j10a through to J8 both ways... (hooked up to the variable speed limit signs) appear to of been removed...

The newer side mounted cameras are still there.

No idea for why they have been taken down, they caught me whilst set to 40 over 3 years ago....

Enjoying a drop of red.

Ditto with the many of the cameras on the M42 and from 8-4 on the M6.

I wonder what they have planned next to keep us in our place and criminalised?

The gantry cameras are linked to the variable limit and are off when the reduced limit is not in use, the newer side mounted cameras are general speed cameras and work 24/7. Presumably the newer cameras can now do both jobs. I doubt if it's anything to do with raising less money. :britain:

I have it on very good authority that speeding in the variable speed limit parts of the motorway is just not worth it, you WILL get a ticket!
