Has anybody on the forum been to this restaurant ... am trying it tonight!
Spent a lot of holidays in Thailand myself so won't expect it to be like the food I got in Bangkok or Phuket, but it should be pretty close.
Will let you know what I think after the meal.

Is it the one on Mill Bank? I used to like it, but the owner's 'boyfriend' seemed to start hanging about drunk, which wasn't pretty.

Yes been there a few times... very quaint little place which is very small and intimate inside which all adds to it really.

Its basically a house that has turned the lounge into a restaurant... don't let that put you off, its really nice.

Food has always been great, service good and fast.

Never seen the "owners boyfriend hanging around drunk" although there was an old(ish) man chatting to some of the guests, I guess that could of been him but I don't think he was drunk.

I definitely think you'll enjoy it.

Ah, fair enough, to be honest I haven't been for about 3 years - I always used to make the 'rents take me for my birthday, but my mum was put off by the man more than me. He may be have scrubbed up.

This place is brilliant...you're bound to have a good meal. As gk said, it's like sitting in someone's living room. Someone obsessed with gaudy plastic trinkets and wall adornings, which all go to make it a really nice quirky place.

I've eaten there on 3 or 4 occasions and never been disappointed with the food, however the last time we went our meals did take a while to arrive as it seemed to be the same woman taking the orders, serving the food and drinks and doing the cooking!

edit: here you go!

I've been a few times and always had a great meal. Oddly enough we're going to a Thai place in Newcastle alter so I'll report back.

Just come back from the Royal Bangkok - it was excellent ... just like what I used to eat on my various trips to Thailand. We had two starters - Thai fish cakes and baked mussels. Then we had a spicy squid salad, prawns with basil, a Thai red curry (beef) and some pad thai (noodles). With two beers and (large) glass of wine it was just over £50 ... can't really grumble.
The restaurant is a bit small, but cosy. Not too busy - Tuesday night though. And the service was very good - not rushed!
Will definitely go again - or get a take-away from there.

what's this place like for someone who:

hates fish
hates coconut
isn't a fan of chinese food (i.e. duck, plum, orange, noodles)

:q:

i know that all sounds very negative, but i'm not as fussy with food as that might make out lol.. i love indian food, and mexican, etc.. i just hate chinese, and i guess the casually racist staffordian in me just thinks "oh they're all the same" :teef:

I didn't think the general starters were HUGE although certainly not complaining....

However we did have the mixed vegetarian starter for two last time we were there which was massive and stuffed us both.

Went here again last week for a mid-week meal, as usual all very nice and good value. Can't fault it. I often forget its here to be honest which is a shame because its nice for Stafford to have a cuisine that isn't Indian, Chinese or pub grub.

Yup, it still is. Great meal, although some had finished eating before others got their meals. Would go again, but in a smaller group.
