Scrimping - How to save money & bag a bargain!

On the subject of scrimping.....

If any of you shop at Sainsburys, they currently have the jars of chargrilled peppers in oil for 27p. No idea why, all the other odd bits in oil are over 2 quid, but its even on their website at this price. Given the price of peppers nowadays, and the fact that I rarely cook twice in the same week so things go off, these may just do me instead. Got 2 years on the BBE date, if you subscribe to such nonsense.

I can also recommend the Cox's Bloody Mary Spicer. Was £2.50, now 62p, its like a thicker, spicier Worcester sauce. More tomatoey(?), with a rather pleasant kick. Us it in cooking like you do WS, or drink it if thats your thang. Also available as a ketchup for 99p (was £1.99).

This was a public foraging announcement on behalf the Other Party.

Had a brainwave today!
I needed to wrap a gift for a friends wedding, but only had birthday and christmas wrapping paper.
Then I realied that I had some wallpaper samples I picked up from B&Q!
I used a floral paper and it looks amazing! Really good quality and special!
You can pick up wallpaper samples as many as you like from all DIY stores!
Never buy wrapping paper again!!!

Or use the thicker white lining paper and customise each one with felt pens..

I remember the days of covering school books with wallpaper, you soon saw who had the gaudiest home in town. It was better when my school (Alleynes in Stone) let us cover them with pictures of pop stars. All of mine were David Essex and Madness. I used pictures of The Bay City Rollers at Christchurch.

As I remember, no to Jimmy Saville, but quite a lot of Gary Glitter.
Incidently, Derek Longmuir, out The Bay City Rollers, was also found to have child porn on his computer. Reckoned someone else had put them there. Makes you wonder how many more are going to come out of the woodwork now.

I've just re-read that question. They only had Gary Glitter as a cover for school books! Jimmy Savile were always looked at like he was a way over the hill disck jockey the bbc couldn't bear part with. Everyone's grandad that you avoided, cos he smelt of cigars n b.o

Or you can scrimp even further by not buying them a present at all. Tell then you bring the gift of friendship and give them a hug. Or is that pushing the scrimping thing too far?

You could knit your rats little jumpers and bobble hats to wear in the winter then you could turn the heating down and scrimp some more :)

Have you ever tried to get a rat in a hat?! It is not fun!

The rat in the picture is clearly drunk/ held at gun point, none of mine would dare be seen like that!

And thankyou Trumpet :)

Just wondering if anyone could give me some tips!

I am hosting the family christmas this year!

Family have finally decided I'm big enough and stupid enough to do it myself so I've got everyone coming to me!

Any scrimping tips? I thought it would be really easy but then I realised I needed, a table cloth, crackers, place mats, table decorations, napkins, chairs and thats all I can think of so far!

Help!

Coasters and possibly place mats?
Pop into a Topps Tiles or the like and ask for samples of chosen tile (with a butter-wouldn't-melt-lady-like smile on your mug of course) stick small sticky soft pads to their bottoms. Do this on a couple of occasions and there you have it, a set of great looking/expensive looking coasters!

i do not condone such behaviour of course, merely pointing out what some scallywags get upto in their spare time, your 'onour.
