Make The Pope Pay

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to ask the Catholic Church to pay for the proposed visit of the Pope to the UK and relieve the taxpayer of the estimated £20 million cost. We accept the right of the Pope to visit his followers in Britain, but public money would be better spent on hard-pressed schools, hospitals and social services which are facing cuts.

Wouldn't they be agnostic schools? Surely an atheist school would be called something like 'Weston Road There Is No God School'?

That's what I was getting at. I am not aware of any state-funded schools which promote atheism in the same way that there are religious state-funded schools.

Frankly I don't see why society should involuntarily contribute to any religious organisation or links with, for example religious schools. Not only is religion a LIFESTYLE CHOICE but its also so diverse so either we have state funded sikh, muslim, jewish etc. school in equal proportions the same proportions (I for one would happily lead any protest against such a thing happening) or all schools become agnostic (which I wholeheartedly agree with).

It aggrivates me that ANY religious group receives even a penny of my money in any way, shape or form because all religion does is cause war and trick weak minded people into joining a socially acceptable cult. Not MyCult though.

But they don't just fight wars, although that is their main purpose. There are times when we need them, and times when we don’t. I’d rather have them and not need them TBH.
