Or turning it into an HMO

They are definitely looking for a new landlord, but they will need a change of tact to attract customers. Its too big for where it is, it needs a USP. I'd say food would be essential in a place that size, but it'd have to be something special to tempt people away from the main drag. You just don't get random walk ins around that area, the closest place doing well must be the rose and crown? You can't even close areas off, like the function room in the bird, to make it appear more lively when there are fewer people in.

Its big enough for small bands though, or the odd rave. We used to have some interesting nights there years back, but that was when places like the Nelson and Firkin were still popular too.

Does the kitchen mirror the size of the drinking area?

In the interest of promoting some local business for a Stafford pub and a well respected Stafford curry house would anyone be interested if the Shrew held a curry night say on a Monday evening?

My thinking is that we could have a face to face gathering in the Shrew in the New Year then order a curry delivery/collection from Thawa Bridge with the Shrew providing plates and cutlery as well as being able to serve drinks.

We wouldn't have to all sit at the same table unless we wanted to but it would be nice to meet and have a mingle with new faces as well as boosting a bit of trade for two local businesses.

Nathan the landlord at the Shrew seems up for it if anyone is interested.

Either that or a curry in the Morris Man, like what I've thoroughly enjoyed an hour ago.

Morrisman might be an option if the Monday night idea kicks off.

To be honest I'm more interested in trying to generate some business in the town centre on the quiet nights at the moment if we can.

Seems pointless when you can get the right beer in the Nepalese already, and additional dishes when required

If you know the landlord, take him to the Great Western. They do a proper cheese and onion sweaty cob presented in the clingfilm

Or the George and Dragon. I think they buy theirs in from Cannock along with most of Gnosalls bread supply

Or take him a Tiggies Stilton pork pie

What beer is it in "the Nepalese"?
.
It's the hot pork baps, now hot roast pork mini bloomers at a very reasonable £3.50, that the Great Western is known for, freshly prepared so no clingfilm.
One of the best pubs anywhere.

Well thanks for the very informative and utterly useless reply @Theresa Green.

I'm sure local businesses will appreciate the additional income your response will promote.

It was just an idea for a possible Forum get together and a means to help the local pub and restaurant trades but your ideas are far better.

Crack on mate!

Yes indeed, a face to face gathering would be so so much more fun than just messing about on a computer.
Count me in.

Yes Tiggy is still delivering bakery offerings to local pubs and I believe he's still doing the pies.

I'll check when next in town and let you know.
I saw Tiggy last night in the Shrew and he said that he mostly does deliveries but you can pre-order any pies, etc and collect them from the shop opposite the Joiners.

Alternatively he said if you ask one of the pubs he delivers to you could add your order to the pub's order. I know he delivers to the Shrew and the Bird but don't know which others he serves.

Google says the number is 07881 871629.

I'll be in Latvia mid January but likely free first Monday after new year (8th?).
Latvian plans are currently derailed while I wait for yet another piece of paper to take with me* so I may be free the first few weeks of Jan.

* I need proof of no criminal record, weirdly the form asks me what crimes I've been convicted of which feels like I'm doing the job for them and certainly does not validate the £55 charge!

Thanks for that.
I've walked past the Joiners Arms twice recently but not noticed a shop opposite.
I shall have another look as the pies Mrs Mudgie gets me from a 'supermarket' aren't much good.

I can't say I've noticed a shop but it could be where the cafe used to be.
