I know we have a few Android lovers on the forum apart from myself so thought you might all be interested to know that the Sky Go app for Android is out now.

Now the bad news... at this time it only works on the following phones:

HTC Desire,
HTC Desire S,
HTC Desire HD,
HTC Incredible,
HTC Sensation,
Samsung Galaxy S,
Samsung Galaxy S II

Now the worse news, it won't work on rooted phones even if they are on the list above. And even worse than that, they have disabled HDMI out too so you can't watch it on a bit TV...

I'm sure some clever devs will manage hack it before long, will update as and when.

Well that didn't take long... XDA Developers already have a modified apk that will allow it to work on some non-supported devices.

Thing with iPlayer is, everywhere you go they have terrestrial TV, but not everyone has Sky and even less have movie and sports channels... so if I can watch Premier League footy when i'm at the in-laws house... i'm a happy man.

When they hack the HDMI out so I can watch it on the in-laws TV i'll be very happy (but not sure the in-laws will be).

EDIT:

Or because i'm too tight to pay for multi-room, I can still watch Sky Movies in bed.... or when i'm watching the footy downstairs the wife can go up stairs and see what rubbish is on the Movie channels.

Done. Its a bit basic though with very few channels (5 or 6?) unless you have paid for the sports and movies.

Fingers crossed the new F1 channel gets added.

No surprisingly the F1 channel is not a paid channel above the basic package. Perhaps it might go that way in years to come though. They may just be trying to lure people over from the BBC for a year or two first!

GSG, just looked on the sky site and saw this:

"Sky Sports F1™ is available in high definition with the HD Pack and available at no extra cost to all Sky TV customers with Sky Sports 1 & 2 or the HD Pack."

http://www.sky.com/products/tv-packs/sports/

Where have you seen that its free?

Also just found:

The dedicated channel will be provided at no extra charge to all Sky TV customers who take both Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 or the HD pack of channels. It will be found at 408 in Sky's on-screen guide, after a scheduled move of the Sky Sports channels. Sky Sports viewers without the Sky+ HD pack will receive a standard definition version.

What I meant is I assumed you needed to either a) pay for the channel itself or b) pay for Sky sports package. However you don't. Obviously it sounds like you need HD, but then I don't know anyone that has Sky TV that doesn't have HD these days.
At the end of the day its never going to be properly free as you have to pay for Sky TV in the first place, but I did think they would have even the existing customers paying extra as it must be costing them a lot to broadcast it.
