Skyrides Stafford

I was just going to start a thread about these! I am booked onto the one on 25 August. They seem great - someone to show you a new route, not competitive and FREE. There seem to be very few people booked on to any of the routes - none on some of them. Such a shame and I would imagine that is likely to mean they won't be offered next year.

Quite agree, I uzed to go on Stafford Roard's weekly recovery ride, but got to the point I wud need to join & commit. Want go out with a group, so this seems great to me, meet folk, make new contacts, & costs nowt! Use it or lose it!

Went 4 a very easy jaunt on the isabel line & round the lanes. Top stuff, booked up for longer one round the Chase in August. Can't wait :)

How many people turned up? I have booked in to an event starting from Rowley Park on 4th Aug.

You'll be on your High Nelly..?

12 if I remember right.
Thanks GOM. Just as long as its not just me and the ride-leader. I have been doing a lot of rides off road but I need time on public roads and this seems to be the best way to get that experience. (Naturally I have discounted my many rides to and from the pub as these have been accomplished usually under cover of darkness and with lots of lights fore and aft.

I think if you go to the main list of the local Skyrides you can see, for each ride, how many other cyclists are booked.

I share your worries! There are seven so far o. The 25 August one and I may have persuaded a couple if others along. Unfortunately some of those who ARE booked on that one received an email a couple of weeks ago, saying it had been cancelled. Fairly sure that was just an 'administrative malfunction' because they are still taking bookings and it all looks ok on the website but they are not exactly helping matters.

I have had definite confirmation from Skyride that the one on 25 Aug is definitely going ahead as advertised. Evidently they changed the route slightly which triggered automatic emails and confusion all round. If you fancy a longer ride, Monkey B, there are definitely seven people doing that one, including two forumites.

I may do that, depending on how I get on with the earlier ride. I'm swapping to new slick tires later his week as up to now my longer rides have been mostly on tracks and there is definitely a significant advantage for slicks on Tarmac surfaces. My only worry apart from that is compromising my forum anonymity!

Update, I have switched my booking to ride on Aug 11th, starting at Sainsburys carpark. My original choice still has only 2 participants so I have cancelled. Looking forward to riding in company - first time in umpteen years.
Depending on how this one works out I may have a crack at the Cannock chase ride later in the month. Strictly anonymously though...

Do you 'do' mountain biking?

I'd be more than happy to go for a ride up the Chase with you - if time and space allow- if you were up for it. Anonymity needn't be a problem, i could pretend to be someone else. :)
