Somerfield

Just been up to Somerfield and its shutting on Saturday. The shelves are nearly empty and some stuff is half price.(nothing worth rushing up there for!) Its being replaced in about 2 weeks with a Co-op apparently.

There were some good bargains there last week... but yes it's a waste of time going there now.. can't even get me regular bottle of vodka there now. :( Having to take a trek to Coop or Asda/Tesco.

Not looking forward to Coop taking over as I reckon they are pretty dear... Somerfield had plenty of 2 for 1's and various offers... but Coop was always a place I only went to in emergency's and paid a bit of a premium.

Just for information really:

Surprised that they are taking on the "Kwik Save"' store though with so many Co-Ops in Stafford, and being so close to the purpose built one on Silkmore Road. For instance, the ex Somerfield in Hinckley has been sold to Tesco rather than Co-Op taking it on.

Surely the other Co-Ops locally, especially the one on Bodwin Avenue are at risk of closure?

EDIT:
"To allow the £1.6bn takeover the Office of Fair Trading has agreed to the Co-op plan to sell 126 stores in areas where a merger would create a monopoly. "

There is yet another Co-op shop on Baswich Lane, just down by Berkswich church, although I believe that it is technically in Farmdown Road, if that matters. Something will have to go, surely.
