Special Tool needed

Does anyone know where I can get hold of a tool to open up the fuse box on a phone box?

I am trying to get hold of one from BT but I might need one quicker than they can provide it. We own the phone box, it has no phone in although it has power. We need to connect something up to the power but cant get in the box.

Every home* should have one, there are so many "obstruction screws" about these days.

I had to make bottom row second from the left for the missus hair dryer on Sunday, I'm down to Screwfix to morrow

On occasions, you can find that the offending screw is too far down a hole that's too narrow for the body of the bit to fit in, but, it will get you past most of them.

From the pic you posted you may find the old type mains cut out box / fuse behind the cover not knowing how old the box is they use to put a fuse for the lighting in the light fitting as well
Also if you are replacing the light fitting make sure its a double insulated type you can tell these by a symbol, that is a square within a square

I have been to screwfix and got the kit.

Thanks @bpelectric ...what we are doing is this.

We (Friends of Bednall) have bought a defribrillator which is going in a temperature controlled cabinet next to the phone box.

The defib itself is battery powered but the cabinet needs electric power so we want to connect it to the phone box.

BT are still paying for the power.

We have been told that we can't proceed any further if there is no isolation switch but we dont know because we cant get in the box.

If there is no isolation switch then we have to contact Western power who need to be present.

@Carole a quick question that you may know the answer to... I've seen a few of these AEDs popping up recently with those pin code locks. Do people in the area know the code or is it given by a 999 operator? I ask because I'm trained in the use of AEDs as we have a couple at work... Always wondered what someone like me might do if someone was to need one in the street.

"In an emergency call 999 to obtain the Access Code for the cabinet so that the AED can be taken and used on the patient. Meanwhile Emergency Services are dispatched to the scene."

And, be aware that people do steal them - http://www.aedlocator.org/news.php .

@biccies...

@Gramaisc is correct.

We will let our locals know the code but in the first instance ring 999. They give you the code so that
you can "make a start" while they dispatch an ambulance.

We have to have the lock code because as Gramaisc says, people do steal them. Our cabinet is bolted to the stand and the stand is cemented in.

We learnt the hard way when some lovely wooden planters, complete with plants lasted less than 24hours before some theif decided that actually, they would look better in his back garden rather than in a village appreciated by all.

Now everything we put in...planters, benches, etc is all cemented in.
A very sad sign of the times.

How do you identify the box in question? Just by location, or do they have some identification on them, a serial number, perhaps?

Both.

We havent got a box number yet because our defib hasnt been registered with the emergency services.

Its not in the cabinet at the moment until we get it wired up.

32 people in the village have put their name down for training which is marvellous.

Great stuff - there is a defibrillator in the foyer of the Crematorium, which always lightens the mood when people notice it....

Hi Carol , the info you've been given is correct Western Power will need to fit or have fitted an Isolator
Once the cover is removed all you will see is a cutout that looks just the same as the one coming into your home but on a smaller scale that's what you call your main fuse its the black or grey box the electrical supply from the street is connected to before your meter.
Im sure they charge around £40 to have the Isolator fitted they cost me and them about £15 each Western Power need to cut the seals and remove the main fuse then reconnect once the isolator has been fitted and a Certificate issued.
You'll need a mini Distribution board as well to supply the Phone Box and your Defibrillator box to, my guess is some sort of other lockable box will be required to house all this in, inside the phone box so no body can tamper with the supply and control gear.
And the cable to the defibrillator will have to be SWA type

Hope this helps

Thank you @bpelectric

We should have had you to come and quote for the job.

The tool from screwfix opened it and we do have an isolator.

So hopefully by this time next week it will all be connected.
