Stafford Freecycle is now Stafford Freegle

We have had a parting of the ways with the founder of Freecycle in the US (he is now commercially driven and we are not, plus lots more political stuff).
Stafford Freegle is a web-based Yahoo group where instead of taking unwanted stuff to the tip, you advertise your items and someone can pick it up for free as long as they collect it.
There are a few basic rules - you sign up with Yahoo, then apply to Freegle. You have to reply with your postcode so the Mods know that you are local to Stafford, then you are accepted as a member.
You need to post an "offer" before asking for a "wanted" (one allowed per month).

Great to know if you have a house full of stuff that needs shifting or if you are in need.

it's at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/stafford_freegle

Spread the word - we have 4500+ members but could use a lot more!

The principle behind Freegle is to keep perfectly good stuff out of landfills and therefore help save a little of the Earth for future generations.

This group is run by volunteers so please remember to be polite at all times.

Can you expand on the "comercially driven" bit... did he want to start charging members? Having advertising on the groups?

He (Deron Beal, USA) wanted all of the Uk groups to move to My Freecycle but wanted to rule the groups like a dictator. He dismissed volunteer mods who had set up and ran their own local groups up and down the country. He started accepting ads from big companies in the US, like Vodafone, which made them look like they had good "green" credentials, and is keeping the profits for himself. He is the only paid member of the Freecycle network, all else are volunteers.
He has suddenly realised that recycling is big money and wants to cash in.
The mods up and down the UK joined together to protest and when it was clear that no-one was listening we moved en masse to set up iloveFreegle.com. We now have a fantastic network of independant but local grass roots groups run by volunteers in their own areas (not in the US).
