They've cancelled the Half Marathon due to the impending weather for Sunday and rearranged it for 4 weeks time.

The general consensus is that its just a little bit shit !!!

The' Milford 21' over the chase was cancelled years ago on the day , because of snow. Those who had travelled to Stafford from miles away, finding out as they arrived, enjoyed a snowy Sunday morning run around the chase with us instead!

    Official Text:

It is with huge regret that The Stafford Half Marathon and Fun Run due to be held on Sunday 18 March must be postponed until Sunday 15 April due to the forecast adverse weather conditions.

The Met Office currently have an Amber warning of snow and ice in place for Stafford between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, In addition, the "feels like" temperature, taking into account strong winds, is forecast to be as low as -11 degrees Celsius, which could pose serious risk to all involved.

Over the past few days we have consulted with the local authorities, advisory groups and emergency services and taken into account the best interests of competitors, spectators, volunteers, emergency services and the local community. Ultimately the safety of all parties is our top priority.

Postponing these events at this stage has allowed us to reschedule the event to Sunday 15 April. Whereby all registered runners will be able to participate as per original schedule.

Runners who are no longer able to participate in the race will be able to transfer their place on race day to another runner at no additional cost. Apologies but refunds are unable to be granted in line with registration T&Cs. We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience and disappointment caused.

The official announcement just about says it! Couple of places have cancelled races. Only sensible decision that could be made me this! Will cost, but peoples is the priority! (The fact he has an injury and now has 4 weeks to recover is purely a coincidence! Ed ;) )

Young master Mikinton was quite pleased with the decision. He lives about an hour-and-a-half away and was a little concerned about driving and the state of the roads. (ETA And it gives him an extra 4 weeks to get back to something approaching full fitness.)

It never ceases to amaze me that organisations think they can get away with such terms. Sadly, few ever challenge them.

This is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which replaced, amongst others, the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Act 1999.

This is what the Government's own guidance, on the Act, states, with particular reference to non-refundable payments:

I think that's the bit that everyone is getting annoyed about. It's a week before the London Marathon, so anyone running in that can't do it.

Also the week after the Manchester marathon and clashes with the Newcastle under Lyme 10k...

This is the problem with running events not managed by "runners"...

Discussed over copious pints in the Floodgate, conclusion being that last year's winner retains his title for another 4 weeks....

I imagine that they studied the various options and came up with the best possible solution with a a very small time to make the decision in! What is guaranteed is that no alternative date will have pleased everybody! (So speaks the man, whom it suits and has no other races planned! Ed )

"So sorry to hear that it's been postponed after many of you have trained so hard. Always a hard decision for the organisers but they have a huge responsibility to look after so many people. If it had gone ahead and there were loads of injuries they would face equally huge amounts of criticism" J.Down Rising Brook Runners

Cancellation and abandonment insurance would not usually cover entrants fees in these circumstances

    Indemnity insurance probably would

Public liability insurance would cover claims if the event had taken place

3rd Party Fire and Theft 1969 Vauxhall Victor 3 months MOT

    Good runner.

    All sensible offers refused
