Are any fellow forumites running it this year?

Its my first Half Marathon for 25 years and I'm hoping to raise money for Katharine House Hospice. If you'd like to make a donation please go to my JustGiving page here. By making a donation you can also pick a track for my Half Marathon playlist.

Before then I need to invest in a new pair of trainers. Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Hi cometcycle,
Doing it again this year; did it last year but had footwear problems, as was wearing an old pair of trainers. Took me till late Aug' to overcome calf/Achilles pain. Bought a new pair of trainers from Bourne Sports, Mizuno Wave Inspire 9, and slightly altered my foot placement aiming for a more for/mid foot strike. Shoes have been great, and get a big thumb up from me; foot placement has been a good move. The shoes are certainly light enough to race in, but I do all my on road training in them. :bananafunk:Cost me £55 last autumn, don't know how much they would cost now but https://www.google.co.uk/?gws_rd=cr&eimyboUtWICeaX0QXOoYGQCQ#q=mizuno+wave+inspire+9&safe=off so looks like it might have been a good deal.

Did 1.48 last year, and would certainly hope to do better this year and training is currently going well, but not sure if finishing high up the over 50 finishers, finishing in front of my 17yr old son, or beating in under 1.40 is my priority!

Well done cc, lets get this fella to his target total. Currently on his way (gon2seed done his bit! Ed ), but another push, if we can spare it, and he will be there, prior to the big event, for such a good local cause imho!

Shame the fella spells his 1st name wrong! ;)

Thank you for the advice and the donation! Would you like to pick a track for me to run to?

Quite a few things I've read have recommended the Mizuno Wave running shoes. Just a matter of being able to get to somewhere that sells them in the next couple of weeks - current trainers won't last much longer.

Good luck in the day in achieving your targets. I estimated a time of 1hr 50 on the entry but of late have been taken by the idea of setting a new PB which would mean 1hr 38.

Bourne Sports in Stoke (not Hanley) Not too difficult to find in Stoke town http://www.bournesports.com/ If you know your size what about online? I am a size 8 1/2, that's what I bought, and they fit perfect. I would certainly recommend getting them soon, to break them in!
Have a good un!

Won't be able to get to Stoke for at least 2 weeks but I'll certainly keep Bourne Sports in mind. Encouraging that size ordered fits shoe size. I'm also about an 8 1/2 but needed to get size 10 in current trainers

My pb is from the late 80's, 1hr 16 min!!!!!! After my serious brain injury in 2008 which left me on a life support machine, and temporarily paralysed down one side, http://www.staffordshirenewsletter....es-challenge/story-20151549-detail/story.html Also I am sure being 50 means I won't get too near that!!!!!! (Masterly understatement as usual!! :ohno: Ed) though I will be hoping to break 1.40! Wish me luck!

An inspiring recovery and I wish you luck in breaking 1hr 40. I suspect you'll finish ahead of me but I can dream of a PB.

A very inspiring story :) All the best for the 1:40, you'll manage it, no problem!

My 2nd time this year :) came home in 2 hours 9 last year so aiming to get under the 2 hours this time round - asthma problems over the winter have held my training back somewhat though...

Good luck finishing inside 2hrs this year!

Curious as to what training routines you're both doing. I'm currently running 3 times a week - 5K, 10K, 10 Miles.

Just popped back on to thank gon2seed for letting me know about Bourne Sports. Went up on Saturday and came away with a lighter wallet  and a very nice pair of Mizuno Wave Rider 17 running shoes. First outing in them last night was very encouraging :)

Now, anyone feeling charitable? :D

Hope he gets a place. Is he hoping to run for a specific cause? Otherwise it might be worth asking round local charities if anyone has had to pull out/whose place he could take?

Thanks :)

I'm running 10 miles at the weekend, one 5k run at least once during the week and I'm also still doing my normal spin class each week too - I should really be trying to do a bit more, but slotting it in around work etc is proving tricky....
