Stafford Half Marathon

Forgive me if this is the wrong forum, I was struggling to decide where to put this, but seeing as it IS a Stafford thing, hopefully it'll be ok here!

I'm running the half marathon today in aid of Home-Start Stafford and District (National website here)

Home-Start said:
Home-Start supports almost 73,000 vulnerable children across the UK. Last year, our 16,000 volunteers gave a million hours of support to their families. We help them cope with post-natal illness, isolation, bereavement, disability, domestic violence and much more
If anyone would like to pledge some money in sponsorship that would be lovely, as Home-Start is, (like many charities at the moment) struggling for funds.

Each Home-Start is run as part of the national charity, but is entirely supported by local funds. Unfortunately, because the Stafford branch is so small, there are no online payment facilities at the moment. So if you would like to pledge please do so in this thread or by PM and I'll contact you about collection (don't worry, no funny business).

I know it's really easy to use sites like justgiving, but supporting Home-Start is supporting a very needy local charity that does fantastic work and lives hand-to-mouth to continue doing that work, so please, feel generous!

Thanks everyone!

Do tell the details about boxercise Worm, is it intense or more 'fun'? I went to one at Esporta once and they were all serious big hitters..

How did you get on zebidee?

Too early to mention?

Remember, pain is a state of mind. I needn't remind you it's also a state of body.

Not bad, knocked 20 mins off my time from last year and finished before my cheerleaders had even arrived!

You're not getting me anywhere near a bike challenge, I use mine purely for transport, can't hack it for exercise purposes. Did do the KHH 10k last year though and considering another half/10k at some point this year.

Any other runners lurking on the forum?!

Well done Zebidee! :)

Hubby & I used to race half & full marathons as well as 10k, 20 milers etc & also did a couple of the 'Milford 21' s . As quite a decent runner I won a few prizes but gave up the serious running when I had my son.

After cheering the runners on last Sunday I thought 'must start running again!' So on Monday night, hubby & I decided to walk & jog down the bridle paths instead of doing our usual evening walk....................That's when I discovered how unfit I have become  Instead of a nice flowing style, I looked & felt like an elephant lumbering along!

I have great admiration for all the runners who took part last Sunday, but even more so now that I realise how much fitter everyone was than me.

Really must get back into it again! I might never get to do the longer distances again, but I made a vow to myself to aim to get around a shorter race by sometime next year. (The old knees permitting!)

Thanks!

Motherhood does that to us! I'm the same, my core strength is abominable, but I must say, I'm a lot fitter than this time last year so it can be done! But I'm not a serious runner, just enjoying it because I don't think I'll ever get fast enough to 'compete'!

What I have noticed is that the people who used to just run to enjoy it are still running more or less just as good now.

Haven't seen many that we used to compete against running lately. Just shows that it isn't good for our bodies to be pushed too hard.
