man you dont know how lucky you are to have a town like stafford,i come from the south of the country i moved here 5 yrs ago
i moved away to keep my sanity from the dog eat dog society down there .ie how much you earn how much is yer house worth .the streets are dirty litter everywhere refugees begging for handouts .crime is rife.i moved here to get back to the simpler life that a town like stafford offers cleanliness ,slower pace of life and most of all neihbours that talk to you and help you .so until youve seen the other side of the coin dont judge stafford as its a little gem

i think we've got to bear in mind that tapok is only 19, and i think many of us felt a bit stifled by stafford when we were that age.. there isn't much for kids to do, really.. that's why many of us move away in our youth - then can't wait to get back, for all the reasons mentioned in this thread!

let him go and sow his wild oats, and i'm sure he will change his ways ;)

Now now, don't let's start trying to "out" people and begin a witch hunt lol. Please see the anonymity thread in General Chat

You missed my point, I'm not looking to "out" anyone, just a reference to someone from North of Stafford maybe having a dig.... we're not that big in The Potteries. And who said he was 19 ? Seems to me a lot of people on here know each other quite well...

Not me. I've worked out that I know who one person is, but not very well and another whos brother I knew and I knew her a little bit but thats it. Everyone else I am getting to know via the forum.

Well I know maybe 3 of you - one because she recognised a pic on my phone from my avatar on here! I probably know a lot more, I just haven't linked online people with offline. Staffords too small for me not to know a few of ya!

does everyone know that you can quote a specific person/post by clicking the Quote link at the bottom right of that post?

please don't think i'm being patronising, i'm just trying to help! it's confusing when people paraphrase posters rather than using the correct "quote" function! if anyone needs any pointers/help with forum functions, PM Admin for advice.. or me, even; i'd be happy to help :)

Although God help you if you want to put a reply in the middle of the quoted text...

And then a bit more after the quoted text at the end. Like this.
Bring back the system of using >s to mark quoted text, consarn it!
:)

To quote in the middle of someones post, use the usual quote button, then put [ /quote ] (without the spaces) wherever you want to type. Then, to start their quote again, type [ quote=dirtybobby ], again without the spaces. Can be a pain, but you get used to it.

Some cities do at least have the capacity for celebrating diversity and as a consequence are more tolerant open-minded places. Small towns are a little behind in this respect.

Most pubs in Stafford are not the most welcoming of places to anyone who looks 'loike they ain't from round 'ere.'

What happened to that gay bar as well?

This is quite an interesting site. Each person has their own story;

I've never found the pubs round here intimidating, but then I am from round here! Its rare I go into a pub and don't know at least one person in there, which is one of the reasons I came back here.

The gay bar got closed by the brewery, they wanted a more 'traditional' pub. Shame really, Jan and Hayley had got things going well there. Always a good atmosphere, never any trouble, and they had no problem with us straighties coming in all the time. Got some great photos of the last night there, and am still good friends with some of the old bar staff.

In regard to the pubs tek-monkey, you are already known, why would you think you might not be welcome. All i mean is in small towns people don't expect anything other than what they know on the whole. I don't think thats a criticism its just kind of true.

As far as the gay bar goes, the bar wanted a 'traditional' pub, sounds like 'poofs ain't gonna make us no money in a town like stafford.'
Fair enough, its just a fact.

I still don't think the bars are that unfriendly though, its just that a lot of people in Stafford know each other so it can be sometimes hard to get into their circle so to speak. I make a point of talking to random people though, especially if they have fit mates! At least you can get your face known fairly quickly, when I lived in Southampton you could go to the same bar every night for 2 weeks, and only see a handful of people more than once. Made it a lot harder to make new friends.

As for Vision, the bar was making money. When the 2 guys had it there wasn't as much custom admittedly, but when the 2 lasses took over it got a lot better. It was certainly busier than it is since they changed it back to the nags anyway. Jan and Hayley are still looking for somewhere else to open up again, so they must have been doing something right.

There are a lot more gays in Stafford than most people think, met a few old mates in there who had come out. Now they stay out of the town, and tend to go to stoke etc. Even ran into an uncle in Vision once who I hadn't seen in about 12 years, didn't know he was gay either.

I moved here at 19 to go to the University and I loved it (the place and the Uni)!

I'm originally from a village outside Hertford (down south). Hertford is a void. There's no cinema, no bowling, the swimming pool makes you ill, no sensible shops and it costs the earth to live there. The place consists entirely of pubs, restaurants, estate agents and bookies. Stafford was like heaven!

I decided to adopt Stafford as my home after I graduated because if Stafford hasn't got it, you only need to hop on the train to Wolves, Brum, Coventry, Manchester, Crewe. Can't imagine anywhere else more convenient :)

Lots of similarly aged pals from Uni all moaned about how boring Stafford was. Now they all say how they miss it and wanna come back for a reunion tour. I guess it's a taste you acquire with age, knowledge and life experience :)

I think of our year at uni, there's only me and TFR still here. :)
Anybody else who started @Stafford at the end of 1999? Let's see how many of you there are...
