Does anyone know where this will be taking place? Obviously Stafford but where about exactly? Thanks

Yeah, because I looked at the closed group on Facebook, they have "accepted my application to join" - and the suggested route is from Sainsbury's, up the Isabel trail to Beaconside - and back, presumably..

Having seen the number of cars and people the Cannock Chase park run generates I'm not a big supporter of this now tbh. I love the idea of a Stafford park run but hundreds of people all running in differing directions and differing speeds is asking for trouble. The leaders will be on their way back and will meet all the slower runners on the not very wide trail, as well as all the cyclists and other various non runner users of the trail.

I ran the Cannock Chase park run and there were alot of people there, and I mean alot. The trail has no facilities to accommodate runners in need of the toilet.

Should use Rowley Park imo. Do circuits and all run the same way.

What's the general consensus on the route @Gramaisc ? Has anyone raised concerns?

Nice and flat.

Concerns about the width and bunching.

Wondering what the turn-around will be like.

Parking issues.

Nobody seems to have mentioned interactions with pedestrians, cyclists, dog walkers, pushchairs, etc..

Thanks. Much the same as myself then. I don't get the logic tbh. Anyone who has ever done the chase Park run will know that 'the lines' is not really suited to the logistics of it all.

It seems a bit iffy to me - it's not too bad when everybody is running the same way, but a bidirectional event on a fairly popular route seems a bit risky.

It didn't show on the ParkRun site when I looked for it.

Well it won't be as it hasn't started yet.
When it comes down to it, you have to try these things. The biggest issue generally with a parkrun and bunching is people not being realistic in terms of where they start compared to their ability (from experience at Cannock chase). I've run at another parkrun when the "track" had been much narrower than the Isabel trail. It's all down to numbers running, I don't expect anywhere near the numbers they get on the chase.

In respects to parking people will probably use either Sainsbury's or the Range (and then jog down). I expect the turnaround to be a series of cones where people have to enter on the left and exit on the right.

Taken from the Stafford Parkrun interest page (Facebook).

*Update*
We are working towards a potential start date of Saturday 8th December 2018.

In order to be ready for this there are still a number of requirements around training, takeover event and a practice run. I am proposing the following dates:

Training: Monday 12th November or Tuesday 13th November (How to use the equipment and upload results)

Takeover Event: Saturday 17th November or Saturday 24th November (at The Wammy parkrun - awaiting confirmation)

Practice Run: Saturday 24th November (depending on when the takeover takes place), Sunday 25th November, Saturday 1st December or Sunday 2nd December.

Please let me know if you are interested in attending these sessions/events

Imagine what people cycling or walking the dog in the oncoming direction must think....even those walking in the same direction. Few in our club did it so I will ask what they thought when i see them. I still wonder if the trail is the right place to do this as popularity increases. I'm glad we have a park run but not sure this is the place. Time will tell. Personally i find running down the lines really boring!

Oh for goodness sake, stop getting a bee in your bonnet and being so sanctimonious.

Yes, it might be a little bit inconvenient for cyclists or dog walkers but it’s just for an hour or so.
It’s not like it’s taken over the whole weekend.

A year ago you hadn’t run yourself, but you join a running club and now you’re suddenly an expert on where runners should and shouldn’t go.

I personally think (as would most people) “ it’s lovely to see a community get together with an event that incorporates fresh air and exercise”

You're moaning about 1 hour each week. The runners themselves will make up their own mind if it becomes successful. It won't become any more popular than the Cannock chase parkrun and plenty of other parkruns operate in similar locations (The Wammy in N-U-L is one such example). The bloke from the council should be applauded for bringing this to fruition.

I'm not moaning, I applaud that we have a park run, I'm a runner, but it seems that other users of the trail may not feel the same, and I have some sympathy. I wouldnt want hundreds of runners bearing down on me if I was walking my dog or pushing a buggy ...is all! It's about considering others who aren't runners!
