oi, i'm not northern!

anyway, we're not fighting - we're quibbling over semantics :P sophie is kind of right, if you're talking about a typical diatonic scale.. but usually when one refers to an "octave," you are talking about all 12 semitones in a chromatic scale :eng101:

I have just moved back to the Ford after eleven years away and I am really glad to be back. The thought never occured to me to come back but fate will have its way and now I'm here I am loving it! The Lady of the Swamp is grinning!

There is not a great deal here by way of laid on entertainment, but you just end up making your own and that is usually the best thing. It is the people who largely share that sentiment who make this town so special for me. (cue patriotic music)

Tenshon once told me "Stafford has more traffic lights per square mile, than any other town". It's gotta be bloody true, now that set at Castletown roundabout is up and running the traffic is a joke,it took me 15 minutes today to get from Tesco to Sandon Road. That's 10 sets in all of a journey of just over a mile. What pray tell is the need for three sets of lights on Chell Road?

They're rivalling the amount of Coffee Shops in the Town, a new one set to open, right opposite the one adjacent to Max Speilmans, which is opposite the Cafe Shop in the Coop Dept store. Stop the madness..and give me H&M!!!

And another con, there are times when out and about it can feel a bit clique. Which loves me right off. Rude bastards. I consider myself a very friendly and welcoming person, an outlook all should follow.

(and me! - Ed)
Pro's:-
Proximity of some beautiful Countryside (Chase, Derbys,)
Greenspace in town, Kings Pool (Swamp in Town) Doxey Marsh
History and some of the Architecture (List on application)
Central location and transport opportunities
Cosy feeling, ie small, safeish, insular, provincial.
I could go on (You usually do! Ed)

Con's
Awful Town Planning
Abhorrent architecture from the 60/70s
Local Politics dominated by small minded folk
Unfriendly, ie insular, provincial, small minded, cliquey
For the County Town of a large County it is really rather unspectacular.
Dormitary Town feeling
Lack of entertainment (But when it is provided it is not supported!)
Truly p**s poor selection of eateries for a town this size!
I could go on (You usually do! Ed)

You've just summed up exactly why I'm looking forward to/dreading moving back next year.

Don't even get me started on this one Miss T. Well do actually! This should be in my rant thread. I will get my letter from the council at lunchtime and let you all know their exact reasons for spending £170k on reducing traffic flow on one of the town's busiest roundabouts!

To quote our local MP on the matter:

I am mystified why it was necessary to reduce three approach lanes to two and why we need two pelican crossings so close to each other. I will ask the two councils (Stafford Borough and Staffordshire County) why this has been done and at what cost. On the latter point we may find that the payment has come out of money paid to the two councils by developers when they obtained planning permission for local development. But the works should be aimed at reducing congestion, not causing it! I will let you know what I find out.

When i get my letter and tell you what Kidney found out for me i'm sure you will all be as outraged as I am!!

i think we all share the same sentiment that town planners have let us down badly.
I walked along Craberry Street on Monday and half the shops were boarded up. I investigated a little and the unit where booklands and that TV shop used to be opposite the surgery is up for rent at 40 grand a year. on top of that the council have impossed some of the highest business rates in the midlands, so to take on that unit would cost about 60 grand a year. stafford really needs more independently owned shops and stuff but who is going to bother when the costs are so high?

Coffee shops, eh?! I thought it was ridiculous when they opened Costa coffee on the high street, but on a jaunt around town t'other day i noticed that there's yet another one opening almost directly opposite! Called something German or Dutch by the looks of it. I suppose a Dutch coffee shop wouldn't be too bad ;)
