what's the betting they open a Starbucks there
Coffee shops, eh?! I thought it was ridiculous when they opened Costa coffee on the high street, but on a jaunt around town t'other day i noticed that there's yet another one opening almost directly opposite! Called something German or Dutch by the looks of it. I suppose a Dutch coffee shop wouldn't be too bad ;)
That's exactly what I said earlier in the thread. it begins with a T, but point made.

What pray tell is the need for three sets of lights on Chell Road?
To quote our local MP on the matter:

I am mystified why it was necessary to reduce three approach lanes to two and why we need two pelican crossings so close to each other. I will ask the two councils (Stafford Borough and Staffordshire County) why this has been done and at what cost. On the latter point we may find that the payment has come out of money paid to the two councils by developers when they obtained planning permission for local development. But the works should be aimed at reducing congestion, not causing it! I will let you know what I find out.

When i get my letter and tell you what Kidney found out for me i'm sure you will all be as outraged as I am!!

I'm writing to the local papers on this one. BBC let me know Kidneys findings, why a foot-bridge wasn't built from Sainsbury's to Wilko's all them years ago :mystery:

Trainers from Jen's shoes. Secondhand faux Farah's - halfmast variety. NHS glasses. Leshark sweaters, polo shirts etc. leftover stock from Bewise. grey school shirts.

It won't have a fitting room as you'll be expected to wear wrong sized clothes. all outfits will be pre-dirtied and smell of piss.

All this doesn't come cheap though - they go mad for this shit down south.

I've lived in stafford for about a year. As with anywhere there are beautiful people who make life better, its just that sadly, the beautiful people have a tiny, shitty canvas to paint their picture on.

Anything good that ever happens seems to get idolised and overhyped just 'cos its better than anything else available, seems like having a lack of choice, and consequently a lack of freedom, and therefore not enough room to genuinely express yourself and have independent thought processes, can affect your view on life and the people in it.

Its all very well being proud of where you come from, but if a point of view doesn't extend very far it just becomes small-minded, and pride starts to manifest itself in a type of aggression born out of a fear of anything thats vaguely unfamiliar.

When you expect more you get more, but people's expectations in stafford seem to be quite low and thats what you get back.

But hey, racists, homophobes, hicks, chavs and trendys are people too.

Arf Arf.

You is what you is, not where you're from.

Thats all i was saying.

In a different way.
yeah, but you can look at it from different angles.. you were saying that, because of your perceived bleakness of stafford and its lack of potential, if something of minor consequence happens it gets blown out of all proportion..

i, on the other hand, would say that the fact small things make a big impact are one of the reasons i love stafford..

i lived in stafford for 24 years, then moved away to the 4th biggest city in the UK.. having lived here a few years, i now cannot wait to move back.. i've come to realise i have a small town mentality, and dagnammit i want to keep it that way..

stafford 4 lyf brap! :v:

I thought I was logged in as DaveDon'tRave, oopsy. It was so much fun.

Fair enough, I like people. They're alright. Arf Arf.

But voicing an opinion gets a reaction, and me like that.

As Socrates said, the one thing i'm sure of is that I know diddly squat.

To pretend you have anything other than opinion is sheer farking arrogance.

And remember, forgive your friends.

Thats the point.

I'd like to quote Mr Bumcheeks, just to clarify a point, though ultimately this might be a contrast as well;

I guess you have to love someone, something, or some place to forgive them/it. For being a bit shit.

My main problem with Stafford is that it always felt very insular, like no one was really going anywhere or doing anything which was a bit depressing

in fairness, you've taken a lot of those quotes out of context.. you quoted me, but neglected to include the bit where i said the very things i left for turned out to be the things i missed the most.. the grass is always greener, and all that..

also - assuming multiple identities to argue your case is weak :teef:

ooh handbags.

I have only one identity though. I may share 'Cheeks name, but there's only one of me.

Cliquey to me suggests non-acceptance of things or people that are not really known. In my experience of small town mentality that is a common occurrence. An equally common occurence are people being friendly.

But, if you see things from an outside perspective, you see things and people more like how they actually are, as was mentioned by the people who've left stafford (I live in Rochester by the way) and come back.

And his computer ;)

I think many people share a "support the underdog" mentality. It's always more fun supporting a cuffy team, as it paves the way for self-deprecating good humour, and makes life more exciting when they actually start winning things.

I think that is very much the same feeling of people on this Forum towards Stafford, and to a larger extent people of small towns in general. I know I get a warm feeling and a wry smile creeps across my face every time I hear "Stafford" mentioned on the radio, or on the TV :)

Definitely - and I don't think anyone here would be naïve enough to say that Stafford doesn't have more than its fair share. But, them's the breaks, and we're here to offset the balance ;)

DaveDon'tRave said:

Bear in mind that everything said here is tongue in cheek. No-one (with the possible exception of BBC ;) ) actually thinks Stafford is the be all and end all. However, it is something of a blip on the geographic radar, so needs all the support it can get. The sycophantism is nothing more than playground "My Dad's better than your Dad" joviality :)

Come on - where else other than this place would you find people getting so excited over the fact that their home town once played host to a Pork Pie Shop?

I must confess in this instance, I was the sycophant.

A subtle bid to increase the chances of 'Poets Corner', after recieving cuffy points as poetsbumcheeks.

I will now make a statement;

I am DaveDon'tRave
I am poetsbumcheeks

I am NOT squeezemycheeks.

And, I do have split-personality disorder, developed as result of being ritually buggered by my old headmaster at primary school. Crack did help for a while.
