But I do have it on good grounds that the myth was indeed true circa 30 years ago.
30 years ago I was 14 and it was joked about then that if you need to make a fast buck just stand on Grapes corner but I'm sure the red light wasn't lit then it was probably more like 1960's backwards. Especially as it was en route from the train station and main route into town. But you 've got me stumped Sir Buckingham of Doxey, can't think of the name of the building.

Spot on, my Nans neighbour was one of those 'ladies', and that would have been some 30 years ago now.

First thing is I would bet it was well more than 30yrs since the red light was on on Grapes Corner. Been chatting to a few people about it today who are in agreement the youngest was my 50yr old sister and she doesn't remember it only the reputation. Second thing, I aint got a blooming clue what the building was called and I usually know my Stafford History. You got me puzzled, what about a clue.

As Sir Buckingham of Doxey seems to have lost interest, I will ask another question.

Stafford Brine Baths. Who used the spire of the clock tower and what did they use it for.

Firemen used to hang and dry their hoses out to side of it. :)

Sorry, I haven't lost interest! I just thought with age'd Parent having a go, I thought it was still a live question. Anyway, I'll tell you as it's passed now - They're called Victoria Buildings.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

That's taught me something, I've not heard that one before.
