The Express and Star office in Mill Street seems to have closed with immediate effect, directing people to a telephone number.

The bizness vintage clothes shop also looks to be quitting Mill Street.

Shogun games is currently for sale.

Mill Street is still awaiting the promised uplift from the south end redevelopment.

Shogun hasn’t long moved has it? Is it the building but not the business?

Fantastic opportunity to purchase a fully Independent Video Games store, established 17 years ago, with a loyal customer base.
Set just off the main High street, in a busy County Town.
Specializing in all things gaming from New consoles and accessories to secondhand and Retro, where we buy sell and trade We also stock a great range of Collectibles, inc Figures, Swords, Snapbacks and Trading Cards etc, with plenty of room to expand the range.
Set on two floors, our busy tournament room upstairs, The GamesLoft can seat 60 people, which we also offer for hire. We offer a full range of activities including Tabletop game nights, Kids club, D&D sessions as well as our trading card tournaments, where we are official TO's for Wizard, Konami and Pokemon, arranging local events as well as Pre releases, all in a great community generated environment, which includes a snack bar service
We have an online presence in the form of 2 Facebook pages, where we have over 3000/600 followers, for which we do offer a postal service for smaller items and also sell on Ebay etc
So if you have a love of games and a yearning for a well established, community-based, and fast-moving business, this could be for you
This is a great opportunity, with potential for expansion into other areas with our established platform.
Sale is due to retirement and offered at a lower price for a quick sale, all reasonable offers considered
Having moved 2 years ago into bigger premises, the premises are on a 9-year lease, with a 3 and 6-year break clause If you would like more information or an informal chat, just contact Susan on

Don't think her son wanted to carry it on tbh, he left to pursue something new, and as she says, she probably started it as a bit of a hobby, now she's older, she probably wants to relax a bit.

Bit of a shame, it's only just moved there like a year ago, hope it doesn't go the same way as discs as it's a good little retro place.

Sad to see this shutting. I guess they could not find a buyer for the business as it has been for sale for the last couple of years.

A large proportion of the Reynolds building is now empty....................................................................

Maybe turn it into a shoe factory or nun habit establishment

We need to look at what shops have gone bump since the closure of kingsmead?

Kirklands was ok but may been on its way out, Halpin was already on its way out as was the god awful fashion factory.

Fuji film has gone but has been replaced by a very decent ladies clothes shop. In market street another ladies shop and the cake shop opened in already empty premises.

The town has lost 2 charity shops in the area replaced by a better millets and soon to he slaters ales all being well. Even the old bagnalls has been filled.

Around Princess Street what has been lost really ??? The area has actually been on the up since Riverside has opened or was close too.

Redrum has occupied a long empty unit, oatcakes and milkshakes replaced a solicitors, up and coming trend of vaping replaced an injury claims business, peacocks has opened on another long empty unit and the mad hatters tea room replaced a long empty opticians. Even the shop next to oxfam has been taken but not sure what for.

So it very questionable whether the area around kingsmead is any worse off than 18 months ago especially with B&M and Aldi opening with a car park that won't be inaccessible for half the year.

One has to ask what has been lost ( while always disappointing) has been any great loss at all, when most that is new is of more benefit that what has been replaced in many units.
I saw Kirklands was being fitted out yesterday. It was in the early stages but I think it might be some kind of cycle shop from the few items of stock I could see.

Mad Hatters closed this week.
They've separated the cake making into a different business (Jotties Cakes) and are 'Trying to sort out the Tea Room' but as of October 1st it 'Temporarily closed until further noticed due to unforeseen circumstances.'

Shame, never seemed to be empty and the staff were lovely.
