I've changed my mind because curiosity has got the better of me.
I do want to go to Newport after all and shall take time out to visit very soon :)

Masala. Went to Shimla once and it was awful.
Mrs T had a take away from Taste of Paradise on the High Street recently. Said it was lovely. Wan Loi Chinese has always been very tasty with generous amounts of meat.

So, not one to let the grass grow, I popped off to Newport today.
I spent nearly 3 hours mooching around. Lovely little independent shops....including one that sells Mistral clothes which I love.
I walked all the way down one side and back up the other.
Found a charity shop "Friends of Newport" which sold paperbacks for 20p so I bought 10 to join my massive pile of "books to read" .
And then, sweet joy.....a Jaspers!!

I rather liked these alms house built for two gentlemen and especially the colourful front garden. Thought the church was lovely too.

The only thing i remember about Newport is @flossietoo reminding me of the dangers of the Door Zone as we entered it - it did not take long to exit it, it is not a very sizeable place.

I was not 'doored' - one suspects i might have remembered more of it, or indeed less of it, had i been.

Looked nice enough in the couple of minutes i was there - did think at the time i should give it more time next time.

Liked The Fox - should definitely give that more time than a quick Virgin Mary.

Newport is a lovely little town. Some very decent places to eat and drink, a great bike shop, a couple of interesting women's outfitters (so I'm told) and a Waitrose.

Of course it's not that big so shopping opportunities are limited but it's only 15 minutes to Telford.

Oh and the locals are friendly, which makes a refreshing change.
As a former local, I'd say that you are very discerning indeed.
