Stafford shops closing - Turning into a ghost town?

I really hope they don’t close M&S, they’re the only high-end “supermarket” left in Stafford. Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda are all pretty much identical these days

Key Markets?
Maypole?
Presto?
Azaraway?
Resales?

Forward into oblivion

I do think the Stafford store could be in trouble, but they hopefully signed a long term lease on the place, also, they may have built it that large already knowing they would be closing the neighbouring stores down.

Also, in other news, the older co-op travel store has bit the dust and closed, oddly enough, directing its customers to the Thomas Cook shop rather than the other co-op travel store.

Not all Co-ops are related

The amazing thing here is that in this internet age, there are any high street travel shops left, anywhere.

Increasingly I find booking holidays beyond just booking flights and a hotel online more complicated, with too much information. The ones I've booked through travel agents have been a lot less stressful

In fairness , there’s less likely to be a problem if booked through a real life travel agent than a virtual one. Last time we booked a hotel for a family holiday through an online travel site, the site went bankrupt and all the money vanished, and no money was passed to the hotel, so had to pay again when we landed !

We did get the money back, but only by disputing it with the bank, but still took a good month to sort.

Air Ambulance charity shop is closing end of the month, That's two charity shops closed in the last few weeks.
I’m wondering if the landlord wants a pub or cafe moving in to the premises, the area definitely looks more appealin* with slaters there.

Also they seemed quite certain they need to be out by this Thursday, so have resorted to just giving what’s left in the shop away for free.

Wolstanton is a very, very successful store.

Stafford on the other hand...……………………...

I wouldn't say Wolstanton is that successful, it does better than Hanley, but for a car park that is free. it is surprisingly easy not to get stuck at tills or on the car park at any given time.

Asda there has been the worst performing in Staffordshire for the last 2 years which is not helped by its lack of access and only serving the wolstanton side of the a500.

Across the road you have abundant access at a massive tesco, sainsburys and morrisons which pummel anything asda at wolstanton does.

M&S there is ok but even Christmas one will have little issue with getting around.

That said, if you went into M&S stafford mid afternoon on saturday just gone you would have thought twice queuing at the food tills. I don't queue for anything lol.

Swings and roundabouts I guess :)

This old gem has been unearthed under the old coop travel signs which have now been stripped off.

Currently in Wrexham having a few beers and a meal before the Stereophonics concert tonight and it makes a pleasant change to walk down a high street with only a few closed shops and loads of shoppers milling around.

I suspect they may be a little behind the rest of the UK because they still have a Maxx Spielman for some reason :)

And they've got a real market with fruit stalls, fish stalls, meat stalls and no vacant stalls.
