varying in quality according to the weather

Beer in casks can go cloudy as a thunderstorm passes the clear once it has gone. Reduction in atmospheric pressure.

Locals in Stone used to reckon that the water level in the canal fell every time Joules was brewing. Rose tinted spectacles says that Joules (Stone) beers were wonderful but that wasn't the impression you got talking to people in the days when they were brewing.

I see the landlord of the post house has changed tactics. They've increased the size of of the sale sign, but are now also looking at offers to rent the place.

Maybe they need to be more realistic with the value of the place ?

There is some work going on in the old Polish shop on Madford. The signage remains largely the same, so far, but Romanian flags have appeared on it. Whether this may be additional to the existing Romanian shop in Princes Street or a relocation of that to larger premises may be revealed at some point.

They could, of course, be Chadian flags, it's only the shade of blue, but that seems a very unlikely niche market for such a size of premises.

Bloody Romanians, coming over here and opening shops on our derelict high streets.

Great news - Stafford made the shortlist for the government high street funding initiative

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/multi-million-fund-to-revitalise-country-s-high-streets

generic government press release said:
Those successful towns will now receive up to £150,000 of new funding to work up detailed project proposals, based on their initial plans. Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will work closely with them, focussing on those places that have “shovel ready” projects where there might be opportunities to accelerate these.

The new Ableworld Mobility Store opened on Kingsmead Retail Park on Friday, creating eight jobs.

The new store stocks a range of mobility products and daily living aids, as well as a stair lift demonstration area, specialist equipment department, and a scooter safety track.

A spokesman for the store said: "Our knowledgeable and friendly staff will be ready to help you find items designed to make your life more comfortable whilst also keeping you independent.

"We have a wide range of products to help customers to live independently, many of which you might not of even considered before.

"From small pill boxes and wide fitting slippers, to adjustable orthopaedic beds, wheelchairs, mobility scooters and stair lifts plus many more.

"We do have a product catalogue available which lists all of the products we can provide, as well as our website ableworld.co.uk which showcases the products in an easy to navigate menu.

"If you are looking for a stair lift, our fully trained engineering team will be able to cover a 30 mile radius around Stafford.

"We can install, service and repair stair lifts and other mobility aids all in-house."

The team at Ableworld provide a one-to-one service and can provide tilt in space wheelchairs, pressure care mattresses, patient transfer aids and more.

So whilst they may not be the most "trendy" store around, in a town with an increasing elderly population this will be a very welcome addition.
