I am told that the signs on the outskirts of Stone used to say "canal town", but somebody kept peeling the "c"s off.
True, it was even mentioned in the 2005 Newsletter guide.

I'm so glad that's true! There used to be a van about with "Canal Cruising" on the side and I once saw it parked in Co-operative Street with a lamp-post obscuring the first "C". I almost vomitted laughing at it. I had a plan to discover the font and when I found it parked unattended to peel off both the "C"s and then replace the second one with a "B". Maybe it's still about, but I haven't seen it for a year or so, at least.

That was done on Canal Street Manchester years ago....fitting though.

bit of a running joke, so i've been told.. as soon as the council repairs it, someone scrapes off the C and S, so it more appropriately describes the kind of night out you can expect there lol..

the same thing used to happen on sash street just near the reynolds.

there was a carpark on there that was a very useful convenience if you had to walk towards town for a taxi......hence the reason it kept getting changed to slash street.

In a couple of minutes I've got to go along Peel Terrace - I may be stopping on the way.

To get back to the real topic - Stafford Borough Council could have honoured local heroes the Climax Blues Band by using "Couldn't Get It Right".

There is a Colin Cooper memorial concert in the Gatehouse on April 16th. I'll post a topic in Out and About to avoid being accused of derailing.
