So, let me get this right, both the A34 and Eccleshall Road are going to be closed Northbound at the McDonald's roundabout for at least 10 weeks?

There are currently temporary traffic lights on the A34 by the old Police HQ and on Silkmore Lane, Baswich Road is going to be closed from the 19th, further out there are roadworks starting on the A449 & A5 at Gailey ... Think someone is trying to isolate Stafford.

Annoying thing is, those lights and the metal barriers out into the road by the old police headquarters could have been removed for this weekend, as the workmen weren't there as I was stuck in jams there on Saturday.

Got stuck for ages on Silkmore with those lights by the old Alpine Lodge island the other week( made worse with the northbound M6 with 2 hour delays due to a lorry tyre change at the time. W'ton Rd and M6 to get off at standstill for miles , and lots taking the alternative Silkmore/ Lichfield rd route.....)

In preparation for next week's chaos, there was a broken down bin lorry outside Bristol Street Garage by the McDonald's roundabout at rush hour this morning - blocking traffic to pass easily northbound and stopping cars exiting Eccleshall road onto the roundabout due the queues. Large queues built up all the way down Eccleshall road and the A34. I think the council placed the bin lorry there to see what fun would ensue, before next week.

Enjoying a drop of red.

That would imply a level of interest hitherto unseen in Stafford from Highways.

Excuse my laziness or incompetence, but i'm unable to keep up here - is anyone able to summarise the best way to get on the M6 at J14 over the next month?

I believe the forthcoming roadworks will operate something like this:
  • Between 06:00 and 20:00 either both or one of the two roads (Eccleshall Road / Stone Road) will be open. The official diversionary route will be by the road that is still open (Eccleshall Road or Stone Road)
  • Between 20:00 and 06:00 both roads may/will be closed. When both roads are closed the official diversionary route will be via Weston Road and Beaconside.

Another broken down vehicle this morning, this time, rather than a council bin lorry, a Virgin Media van on the A34 Southbound at The Shire Horse roundabout. So can't blame SBC for this. Needless to say, it caused unnecessary delays.

Glad I've been sticking rigidly to it then, rather than being bullied to stick my foot down by lorry drivers about an inch off my rear end. Always thought others must know something I don't know as they go tearing past.....

I'm still going to be sticking to the 50 MPH limit beforehand as well, despite the report in E&S quoting that the 50mph limit before reaching the roadworks is not being enforced but only there to get people to slow down before the 30 stretch.. Bit of a pain, especially as it's now 50mph from just after Frankly Services all the way to the 30mph bit. But don't fancy a nasty surprise through my letter box!

Roadworks with temporary traffic lights on the A449 at Dunston this morning. The noose around Stafford is tightening

I notice that Marston Road is 'Road Closed' tonight from the mini roundabout at the junction with Browning Street. Additionally, the roadwork signs have been placed ready to be unveiled on Monday morning for the closure of the A34 and Eccleshall Road. I assume the road has been closed to prevent the A34 traffic from using it as a shortcut, as I suggested - or to actually leave Stafford.

Spouting nonsense since the day I learned to talk
There is a sign saying it’s closed from 6th to 8th February.
