Stafford's secret car parks

worrying thing is that road will become part of the western access route. if they don't fix it the new bypass is going to be closed most of the time

This is what I thought, they have had years to sort this out and it still floods every time it rains. On Friday there was a rover 75 sat in there up to it's door handles. You quite often see wagons trying to turn round there after being confronted by this inland sea, at the very least they could put up signs at M-way junction warning truckers that there is no parking at this lorry park. The new road would need to be built on a causeway to stay above the high tide level.

I've helped a couple of artics this year back up to the mini island the poor buggers, like Laurie61 said you'd think they would at least put a notice leading up to the Old Mill Island when its flooded save them the agro of having to back up

Contrary to the experience of Gareth, above, I shop in Newport because, going by car it has always been a pleasant, easy, hassle-free option.

Mostly, I can park on the street, right outside where I want to shop. Failing that, there are two big, free car parks. I've never had a problem finding a space. There are no traffic jams (except during the school run. Then, it's horrible) and it is just an easy option.

On a Saturday, when I want to do so many more enjoyable things than shop, I can't think of a single reason to waste time sitting in a traffic jam getting into Stafford and finding a car parking space. I go to Newport or Eccleshall. Or I send my husband :)

Enjoying a drop of red.
Do not agree with those with free parking are doing well. Newport have this in their town centre high streets which was backed by the mayor.

even she has admitted free parking is a mistake as have shop owners who wanted it.

reasons that the parking is not regulated as there are or were no traffic wardens so there is no turnover in traffic. Plus the parking is taken up by people who work in town and not actual shoppers. It is a right mess.

free parking may work in areas in small forms but is not the answer and even Newport have paid car parking on centre outskirts car parks.

you look at Stafford s charges they are quite reasonable and certainly not above the normal. I mean you can have all day parking at sainsburys and station ( Saturdays) for 2 or 3 quid you will be hard pressed to find that anywhere
Utter tosh, not what I've experienced at all when I go to Newport, several times a week.

What planet do you live on? Seemingly not planet Newport or planet Literate!

@Staffordbc: There will be more car parking spaces made available in Stafford Town very soon. More information http://t.co/YUKvNdZN35

Interesting that they have decided to add parking spaces as it apparently indicates a U turn on roads/ parking policy, even if they are only temporary, maybe it's in response to all the bad press recently about traffic management or lack there of. - From the CAR PARKS STRATEGY 2010-2016 -

" The availability of parking affects the level of car use and therefore the level of traffic congestion on our streets. The development of this Parking Strategy will take into account that many of the roads in the Borough, particularly in Stafford and Stone Town centres are subject to congestion, mainly during peak hours, but also increasingly at off-peak times.
Such high levels of traffic result in pollution and other adverse effects on the environment and economy. Since it is not possible to provide enough road space to accommodate all the private cars that seek to use the Borough’s roads, ways have to be found to increase usage of alternatives to the car, including public transport, cycling and walking. This is particularly important with regard to commuter trips.
The level of provision for long stay parking spaces will have an impact on the level of car commuting."

So should Stafford Borough Council do something similar to Virgin Trains and charge a higher price for those parking before 10:00, with reduced charges thereafter?
