Mr. Marwood is quite correct, it is not currently on view but will be a week on Saturday, after Big Ears has had a private viewing.
One would have thought it would have made sense to have him butter up some local grandees in the process so they might cough up a bit more than you or i could, if you pardon the presumption.

Come to think of it why doesn't Big Ears put his money where his mouth is and relieve us of our shoulder burdening? The public purse be his recompense, let alone the cash cow that is Duchy ( does one pass pon de left hand side ? )

Have just seen a poster in the library advertising a talk by two archeologists involved in the dig on Mon 29th March at the Gatehouse. Tickets are £5 with proceeds going to the save the hoard fund.
It also had a picture of the witch bottle found at the recent Tipping St dig so they may be talking bout that also, though can't be sure.

If anyone is interested in the above talk they might want to hurry. I bought mine today and they have ~80 tickets left out of 500.
Apparently a similar event in Lichfield is sold out so it is attracting people from further afield.

Re: Tipping Street dig. Preliminary findings;

1. Stafford important centre of pottery manufacture 1000 years before Stoke on Trent.

2. Evidence that Stafford is spiritual home of the oatcake!

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
I am told that..The monies to purchase the Staffordshire is in place

There is however, an apparent need for funds to exhibit the Staffordshire in the 'right' environment.

The two sites of Birmingham and Stoke will share the Staffordshire with smaller pieces lent out to smaller musuems

Which all makes me larf considering the lumpy metal has sat in a field for donkeys years without any expensive airconditioningfiltrationsytemsthatarestateoftheartguvnor

The Tipping Street dig has found a huge stash of empties believed to originate from the early PunkNewWaveEra or the 1970's . Experts have called in members of the public who frequented the UB ( union building ) in Tipping Street to try and establish more information on the find. Unfortunately so far nobody can remember a thing but they all have terrible headaches

Why should Brummygen get any of it - thay're not in Staffordshire?

Why should SoT get it - the stole our oatcakes!?

Personally I would like to see a new building in Stafford whose primary purpose is to display the hoard but also to bring other items and artwork into the town - woulde be nice to give people from afar a reason to visit Stafford!
