Staffordshire Hoard

Again, like the Blood Donation thread, it goes back to when this was 'Out and About'..
Indeed - not the biggest of deals but if and when Admin gets round to it etc...
Maybe we just have to put up with the odd grey area - like when a serious TV programme is put into 'Entertainment'..
Serious TV programme? Does such a thing exist in your TV-less world?

So, as can only reasonably have been expected, the further finds have been declared treasure -

Experts from the British Museum will now value the latest finds of gold and silver fragments.

It will then be up to Staffordshire County Council and neighbouring authorities to raise the money to buy the items.
Could be time to look down the back of the sofa again...

A bit galling that Herbert gets his half of these new monies despite zero input, but i hope the appetite is still there to stump up for it.

Seeing as this thread has nothing to do with either pubs or eating out, it might be worth moving it - but to where?

Given that the Hoard is on show at the BMAG and the Potteries Museum i'm guessing 'Surrounding Areas' would be the most appropriate?

Enjoying a drop of red.
I'd imagine a mouthful of the Hoard would stick in the throat somewhat. Though once regurgitated it would no doubt be good for the wallet.

I thought it was a well known fact that you can't eat gold?

Although if you :google: the phrase you will be told otherwise. But only by people who either a) have heavily invested in gold, or b) make a living out of getting you to heavily invest in gold. TBF their evidence might not be regarded as entirely reliable.

Mind you, i bet Mr.Herbert believes you can eat gold.

There is a liqueur called gold liqueur by Bols, that has flakes of gold in it, I have one that has been drunk (by me) but still has a few flakes in the bottle, I may take it to one of the may gold buyers in town to ask how much it is worth.
So can't eat gold ?
Maybe, but you can definitely drink it!

Question -

I was questioned about this the other day by some people who had come to Stafford under the apprehension that the Hoard would be here. Now i haven't had opportunity to see its current residence in either BMAG or the Potteries Museum so purely on the basis of the flashier website of the latter directed them hence.

I went to the tour of the Hoard, obvs, but have no idea what the current situation is. Can anybody give me a bit of gen about the displays of either or both? If somebody asked you where the best place to see it was, where would you direct them?

Well i finally got around to visiting the Potteries Museum and can report that the Hoard display is excellent.

I got chatting to the room wallah (who was very friendly and knowledgeable) who informed me that the items on display are continually changing, with stuff being swapped between them and the BMAG. It really was fantastic to see pieces i'd not seen before - including a case of objects from the 2nd find of 80-odd artefacts.

I also found out that on the 6th Feb the entire Hoard is to be gathered at a top secret location so it can be studied in the all together. I think she said it would be gone for six weeks but can't quite remember, so if you are planning to visit either the Potteries or BMAG specifically to see the Hoard check it's back first.
