Sunday Lunch in Stafford

We are sitting here wondering where we can get a decent Sunday lunch without leaving the confines of Stafford town, and really can't think of anywhere.

Any suggestions or experiences of Sunday lunch in town would be gratefully received.

I know of a lot of the out of town options and this has been covered in other threads, but am really interested in somewhere that I only need my legs to get to and from.

Sorry if this is a duplicate thread, but a quick search didn't find what I was looking for.

We haven't been but good friends of ours rave about the Sunday lunches at the Spittal Brook.

Thanks for the suggestions, we ended up in the Vine the meal was very nice for the price.

Only moan was the music they were playing was awful, made worse by an awful sound system.

Looks like they are closing down for a refurb in Feb, I hope they do it well. The Vine is one of the oldest places in Stafford they could make a gem of this place with some thought and effort.

Please keep the suggestions coming tho, if any ones got any more suggestions about Sunday dinner options in Stafford I'm still interested.

Not a great deal of choice in fact you get no choice at all for the main course at The Tap and Spile. They do 2 weeks of beef and then 1 week of pork BUT the food is excellent, well cooked and very generous portions.

£4.50 for the main and £1.50 for a dessert

I am on a quest for the perfect Sunday lunch.

We have been searching for ages and nothing fits the bill.

The Dog and doublet is wonderful but if you like to go out most Sunday's then it becomes a little pricey but I would recommend it for a special occasion.

What I want is the sort of place where you can just nip to quickly when you cant be bothered to cook without having to make too much of an occasion of it.

Seven stars Brocton....carvery .... Lovely food but dismal surroundings and clientele who think it's acceptable to dine in football shirts. Call me a snob but this is not for me.

Radford bank....see above ditto.

Chetwynd arms Brocton. Boil in the bag beef. Yuk.

The bridge house penkridge....actually not too bad, nice surroundings, food ok but the lady owner always has a face like a bulldog chewing a wasp. Makes you feel like a nuisance for wanting a table. A welcome with a smile would make a nice change.

Any Chinese or Thai or Indian out of the question.....lovely most nights of the week but for Sunday lunch I need my roasts.

Any ideas on where to go with a mid price range and not too fat to travel from ST17?

No hesitation, The Crown at Hyde Lea. Lovely Sunday lunches and a pleasant (though uphill) walk for ST17ists.
Added bonus usually a decent guest ale or two on offer.

wanna see my snake?
But an excellent downhill cycle for the return leg, you should easily hit 30mph by the time you are at the bridge :D

Swan, Whiston; Bell or Shropshire at Haughton; Clifford Arms, Great Haywood; Woolpack at Weston? How far out of Stafford are you prepared to travel?

We live in Bednall and so the Moat House is on our doorstep.

For a special dressy uppy Sunday lunch I don't mind travelling a bit but for a "can't be bothered to cook, let's just pop out and get something quick" then oh, let see.... 5 or 6 miles.

Saw a sign for Hyde Lea today....can't say have ever been there. Is it near Coppenhall?

For dressy up, possibly Red Lion at Bradley or the Shrewsbury Arms at Kingstone (11 miles for this one), but haven't eaten at either recently. Royal Oak at Church Eaton is another possible
