Tail end of the Season Mega-Thread that should have been but wasn't...

Given the sensibilities entertained elsewhere...

Liverpool should be quite hopeful of turning Real over - they were quite woeful against Munich and will not get away with it against Liverpool's front three.

United will beat Chelsea - of this i am quite certain, even though i don't think Mourinho knows his place just yet.

City were a joy to watch, i don't care where your allegiance lies - that was actual history we just watched.

Whilst i appreciate that Salah is worthy of the accolade, i think we all know that de Bruyne was actually the Best Player over the course of the season.

It has been emotional.

So Stoke are relegated, which is a shame as, with Wolves being promoted, it would have made for a nice local derby. What do you guys think the support for those teams in Stafford is? About 70:30 Wolves to Stoke?

Liverpool - It worries me that they don't seem to end games well. I saw some stat showing how, recently, they scored a huge amount of goals early on and conceded a silly amount in the last twenty minutes. I really hope they win, but I'm not that confident. Remember Istanbul (see below).

United v Chelsea in the FA Cup. I really don't care. I hope it goes to the team that deserves to win.

Man City were usually fantastic, which makes Liverpool's performances against them even more special. I've always had a soft spot for Citeh. Having to share a city with United can't be easy.

Yes, I well remember Istanbul. I'd planned to watch the whole game, but with Liverpool being 3-0 down at half time (about 8:30), I began to check the schedules for something else to watch .... and noticed that "Cracker" (Robbie Coltrane) was on ITV2 at 9:00. So the plan was to watch 15 minutes of the game before turning over. Anyway, the first Liverpool goal went in at about 8:55 and the second at 8:57, at which point I grabbed the DVD remote control to record Cracker and settle down to watch the rest of the game. The equaliser went in at about 9:00 and, as they say, the rest is history.

Enjoying a drop of red.

We regularly get rabbit-in-headlights syndrome when we get an early lead. It is very worrying. Everyone seems to rave about Dick Van Dyke but I don't rate him at all. Our defence hasn't improved much since his arrival I don't think.

As for the final then I bloody hope we win but who knows. All finals are very difficult to predict.

A new manager for every single game

The Guest Managers Association

A new manager for the first half, sacked at half time. Second half substitute manager

Two minutes injury time?

Why not introduce a new manager

^not the coat/jacket conundrum - i'm as foxed as the next person who is equally foxed.

But possibly more foxed than the person who is less foxed.

Actually, by definition more foxed than whomsoever is less foxed.

Liverpool should probably buy Bale if they can afford him.

That, in particular, was extraordinary.

Twice.

I don't suppose De Gea is up for auction, is he?

Arse.

Just arse :(
I know it's not much consolation but, aside from the goals, I thought Liverpool were the better team over the 90 minutes. They had much the better of the first 30 minutes* and were as good as (or close to it) for the other 60. But as they say, it's goals that count whether they're from goalkeeping howlers or fantastic overhead kicks.

For me, it could have been worse. At least Ronaldo was anonymous, and it was a Welshman that made the headlines (well, some of them at least).

* - Liverpool may have flattered to deceive by playing that pressing game in the first 30 minutes. They'll have paid for it in the second half, especially as they weren't able to score. And compare the quality and effectiveness of the key substitutes, Lallana and Bale.

Bale was awesome, fair play to him.

Have you a scheme in mind?

Ramos should have received a red card for his challenge on Salah.

That was 'reckless disregard' to the danger to which he placed his opponent.

What perturbs me most of all is that the 'best' replay of the incident - ie the most indicative of the offence - shows exactly how close the referee was to the incident. The 'camera angle' looks right over the referee's shoulder - it's not as if any of this wasn't right there in front of the officiator. Ramos grabbed Salah's arm, tucked it under his own, and leant all of his weight to throw Salah onto the floor deliberately, with enough force to dislocate his shoulder.

If that isn't 'reckless disregard', i'm not entirely sure what also might not be. It's not even as if it was so early on in the game - something for which Ramos has 'form' - that the Ref might turn a blind eye to. This was clearly dangerous play, and really should have been treated as such.

If Real had subsequently had to play the rest of the game - sixty-plus minutes - with ten men i think it is safe to assume the eventual outcome would have been different.

It doesn't personally affect me either way, but a sense of fair play does.

I'm afraid I don't have a lot of sympathy for Salah as clearly, at one point, his arm was locked around Ramos' as well.

It's one thing I hate about modern football. It seems that, to be any good, you need to be good with your arms as well as your feet. I'm sure a lot of it is illegal but if both players are doing it, the refs seem to let it go.
