... as clearly, at one point, his arm was locked around Ramos'
At which point Ramos had already pinned Salah's arm under his own. Look at the picture above - Salah's arm is already trapped, what he then does with it is immaterial.

The infraction has already occured, worthy of a free kick if not a yellow card at this point.

That Ramos subsequently uses this grip to throw the poor chap heavily to the ground is dangerous play arguably worthy of a dismissal.

In the context of the passage of play, Salah gains no advantage from holding - he's trying to get away. The most annoying thing aout the whole episode is that the best angle televised to see what happened looks right over the referee's shoulder - i appreciate that slo-mo makes it easier for the armchair ref, but that was pretty blatant.

That it unarguably changed the course of the game makes it lamentable in the extreme.

As I said, I don't have a lot sympathy for Salah as it was him wot started the arm-locking. In the photo, his right forearm is already at 90º while Ramos' are both near enough horizontal.

Is that the latest version of Strictly Come Dancing?

If so I suggest the scousers sign up Ann Widdecombe to replace Emre Can, it's the best chance they've got of winning owt :)
