Talk to me about... Chromecast!

Hello fellow forumites.

Does any kind sole here have a chromecast usb stick that they would be prepared to lend me just for a few hours to run some tests? I want to see if I can make Chromecast send the signal from my PC to a TV set having both connected to a hotspot created by my mobile phone (theoretically using the phone as a router). There are many forums where people discuss failed attempts of using a phone to Chromecast without using home wifi - but this is a slightly different scenario to which I can't find a definitive answer.

Basically, my photo booth computer will be connected via WIFI to my mobile phones wifi hotspot, as would be the chromecast device. I want to be able to stream the photos being taken to a TV sited not to far away. The booth software has chromecast functionality built in, but obviously at most venue's I would have no access to wifi, other than a hotspot created by a mobile phone or mifi unit.

If anyone has a definitive answer, or would be willing to lend me a chromecast dongle for a few hours to try this out I would be massively appreciative.

TIA
Wayne

You're welcome to borrow mine, where in Stafford are you located? If you're close by I can drop it off, otherwise you're welcome to collect.

Actually, I had some time to kill and based on your instructions I think I've proven that what you're trying to do is possible. I turned on the mobile hotspot on my iPhone 6, I then connected my MacBook to the mobile hotspot, then I connect the Chromecast to the hotspot and cast a YouTube video from my laptop to the TV. This worked exactly the same as it does with my normal internet connection (BT router).

@citricsquid you're a flaming superstar!!! I'll quite happily go and buy one now. MInes an iphone 5 running the same ios etc. so shouldn't be an issue. Obviously the "media" I'll be streaming will be local so it won't be wasting mobile data either for my purpose.

I really really appreciate you taking the time to test this for me. I owe you one! :)
Thanks again
