Taxi Drivers

Is there a special license that Stafford taxi drivers have that allows them to drive faster than any other drivers on the road? To stop in the middle of the road and hold up traffic whilst setting down or picking up fares? Why is it that they don't seem to have any consideration for any road users? Do they go to the same driving school as bus drivers? Did they go to the John McEnroe school of manners. Or is it just me?

They get a licence from Stafford BOROUGH Council!

I think it's in the job description rather than the license though :)

I'm sure one of our fellow Forumites (..perhaps coobeastie? :raise:) mentioned that they were a taxi driver.....maybe you could shed some light?

After just aquiring my second set of three points in eight years (that bloody camera at tittensor thats trips at 42mph), i'll have to say no to the first bit.

There are a large number of deplorably bad ones. Remember, we're all grumpy today because we're not allowed to smoke anymore.

Now how about milkmen who drive on the wrong side of the road at 4am, anyone whos recently driven down the Friars the wrong was, anyone parking a 4x4 on the kerb outside a school, anyone under 21 driving anything with a big exhaust on it, the emergency services running on a blue light to get to the chippy and the parking across the zebra crossing on weston road (don't deny it. i saw it last week).

There are lots of tossers in the world, we're only some of them.

Oh, and the speed limit it 30mph. not the 24 that you all lot see to be doing.

i always get stuck behind him too lol
and while we're complaining about drivers... why not make doing sixty in the middle lane of the motorway a hanging offence.
and cycling at night with out lights carry to death penalty too (ooh, hang on, it carries so sort of implicit delf-fulfilling one, doesn't it?)

There is a special law for bus drivers. They are entitled to park up on double yellows outside Sandon Road chippy at the end/beginning of their shift. :grr:

A stafford point for your honesty. You're right, it's not just the taxi drivers. What is it with peugeot drivers too, it seems to me that you have to be seen to be dashing around in a peugeot and with the stereo full blast.

'Oh, and the speed limit it 30mph. not the 24 that you all lot see to be doing.'

Disagree with this, not all streets are 30 some are 20 and who are 'you all lot'?? I do what I deem to be a safe speed which usually is the limit, be it 20 or 30.

I totally agree about the drivers who hog the middle lane, they do not realise that this lane is for overtaking, and the people who park on the zig zags outside schools should get their licenses taken away for putting lives at risk.

I'm just going to climb down from my soap box for a little while now and go pour myself a drink.

I strongly suggest that if you want to see PIG IGNORANT driving at it's very worst, try negotiating Porlock Avenue when Leasowes children are arriving or leaving.

ah, in my experience they are either in a fiat punto, or a clapped out nova

good point, well made. the "you all lot" was possibly too much of a sweeping generalisation.
but if your speedo says you're doing 30, you're probably doing about 27. check this for it is a cast iron fact.

well i hope its a nice drink. i would like one, but i've got a school minibus run to do in the morning, and i never drink within 12 hours of driving.

another fact for the day... if you drive at exactly the speed limit between Redhill Island and Stone Business Park Island, it takes exactly the time time as it does Queen to sing Don't Stop Me Know.

Most housing estates are 20mph and I have noticed that people especially bus drivers take absolutely no notice of this at all. What are the speed bumps for and what is it with corporation st, it's like a race to get to the chikaney (check spelling) things and it is usually taxi drivers that I have had dealings with, sorry coobeastie. I know you have to get to a certain place at a certain time. Next time your out driving but not working watch them other taxi drivers.

If somebody in the inside lane's only doing 50, and the one doing 60 is overtaking them, then there's not a problem, surely. What speed somebody does in any particular lane of a motorway is supposed to be dictated by what speed people in the other lanes are doing, not what speed somebody assumes should be allocated to any particular lane.

Just thought I'd bring that up - feeling particularly officious today. And seemingly a bit too fond of the word "particular".

If you want to see bad driving you should try being a cyclist. It's only then that just small things like not indicating to turn left can be life threatening. I just cannot see what is so hard about siting in a nice warm car and clicking a lever to put your indicator on. Are people really that lazy? The number of times I've waited at traffic lights, even, and been next to a car that is not indicating only to set off and cut me up comletely as they turn left is imeasurable - doing it at full speed is even worse. they come round you believing it is there god given right to be in front and you, as a cyclist, must be going slow (even though I'm usually going about 20mph) then don't indicate and turn left - Fecking Bastards!

AND cyclist with out lights at night and ones who use the pavement and ones who ignore red lights pee me off too!

I was refer to old duffers in Rover 75s, probably wearing hats, who sit at 60 for the entire journey in the middle lane overtaking nothing, forcing everyone to bunch up and try to pass in the overtaking lane.

had to do another school run this morning. jesus, how some of the people out there aren't dead is beyond me.

only in stafford do you indicate left at a traffic island, then turn right.

'AND cyclist with out lights at night and ones who use the pavement and ones who ignore red lights pee me off too!'

Where I live is there are many oriental students and they all ride bikes ON THE PATH and they ride in groups of at least 2 or 3. Many times as I've walked out of my gate I've almost got kncked down. I keep trying to politely say it's wrong but all I get is big smiles and Sorry.

The COUNTY Council (is that okay doctor) have provided the cyclists with cycle lanes and they still insist on going down lamascote rd into town on the road. Usually the proffesional in his cycle shorts helmet and legs going ten to the dozen. Yet they would be the first to complain if someone cut them up.

Message to cyclists, where there is a cycle lane, please, GET OFF THE ROAD, where there isn't a cycle lane, please, GET OF THE PATH. Thank you.

Strangely I am in 100% agreement with you on this.
