You don't bet Dave with the basic package, or paramount? They are in the entertainment pack aren't they? I know my GF had to pay for them seperately?
well, i pay £17.50 a month and get 2 add-ons (or "mixes" or whatever they call them) - "entertainment mix" which gives me dave, paramount, etc. and "music mix" which gives me all the music channels.. i assumed that for £16.50 you get one "mix," which would presumably be the entertainment channels..

either way, it's only a quid extra!

why anyone doesn't have sky these days is beyond me.. what's £16.50 a month in this day and age?
Personally I can't stand most TV, generally I only watch specific things on catchup or online on demand services, I don't currently have a TV. I agree that the price is very very reasonable, however, for me at least, I don't think I would get value for money. Also I spend a lot og time out of the house when I am not at work too.

I haven't had a TV since 1983 and I can't imagine how people find the time to watch all the crap that's on today.

well, obviously there would be no point in having it if you haven't got a tv lol.. i didn't think i had to qualify my statement by putting "why anyone [who enjoys watching tv regularly] doesn't have sky these days is beyond me," i thought that went without saying lol..

Flippin 'eck i am astounded at the response to my question it is gratifying to know that people can take the time and effort to offer guidance and help. Not sure if i am any wiser but that is down to my own lack of gumption it'll take me a while to digest all the information recieved and when i make a decision i'm confident that the help given me will be most useful, a heartfelt thanks to one and all.....

OK, easiest way is to ask what size TV you want? Tell us that, and we can come up with a few suggestions for you :)

I've heard a few good reviews on this one, but not used one myself so can't be positive. ebuyer are usually a good yardstick for prices, if you see anything you like tell us which and I'll try to give you any pros/cons I can think of.

If the budget is a little tight during this tedious recession may i suggest a freesat box and use your existing hard drive recorder.

New TV + Freesat box + Hard disk recorder

or

New TV + Freesat box that can record and has a nice electronic program guide.

The big win here is watch one side and record another.

Good name Samsung, Good price 280, sadly wrong size she is losing sight rapidly and i would dearly like to surprise her and vainly impress the neighbours with a 42" stunner on the feature wall...

Ebuyer do a 42" 1080p TV for £500, but no idea how good. Have you seen a 42" close up, as in actually in a living room? They are fairly big!
