Last week I went into Tesco to look at a Samsung Tablet which was on offer at £238.00 when I searched for this product on Google, in the search results it stated that there was £50.00 cash back from Samsung, in Tesco they told me that the offer had finished two weeks before, also when I was in the store an Asian man with a badge saying Tesco tried to sell me the same Samsung Tablet, when I asked him about the cash back offer he also said it was finished, I said it was a disgrace that Tesco is offering a cash back online when it was not available, he responded with "I work for Samsung so it is nothing to do with me"

I was in the store today and a gentleman next to me said he had purchased the same model and was going to claim the cash back, I said it is a pity it is finished, he replied with, it is not finished until the 31st of December 2012 and went on to show me with the use of a tesco laptop where to find the offer on the Samsung website, also the same Asian man was there and this person told me he worked for Tesco, I wonder how many customers of Tesco could be £50.00 better off if they told the truth, anyone who has purchased a Samsung tablet in the last few weeks must claim their £50.00 15 days after the purchase date and no more than 60 days after the purchase date, visit the following website for more information:

Unfortunately, this attitude doesn't surprise me. Thanks for letting people know. The Consumers Assn might also be interested.

Not very surprising I'm afraid. Don't know if it's Tesco in general or the Stafford store in particular but their customer service is complete crap.

I'd sooner buy computer equipment from PC World than from Tesco and I can't begin to tell you how low my opinion of PC World is...

Rip off even with the cashback you'd get it cheaper elsewhere if not in town online

I think the opening post says it all...I get the impression he was lied to - and at best misled.

I think the whole idea of cash back is a rip off anyway, they're simply relying on people being lazy / forgetting to claim it so they can make a bit more cash!

The cashback is purely a Samsung thing, it isnt a Tesco promotion and therefore would not expect them to have all the details or knowledge about them.
Secondly of what descent was the gentleman in the queue next to you?

Still sounds like a rip-off endorsed by the host retailer.

The gentleman next to me who said I could claim the cash back was English, my own thoughts are that with Christmas approaching Samsung had made a mega mistake in offering this cash back as it has been widely know that computer tablets were going to be one of the top Christmas sellers, I believe and this is my thoughts only that Tesco and Samsung had an agreement to tell customers that the offer was finished and that every tablet sold through Tesco that did not get the cash back Samsung would give Tesco a cut of the £50.00 saved, I purchased the last one yesterday, I wanted another one, I was told that I could order one but it would not be at the store until Jan. 2nd, I asked if my receipt would show the 29th Dec. the staff looked alarmed but as I had to pay for it there and then they had no option.

As stated the cash back is a Samsung thing, lots of companies do it. Hp often give £100 back off a server, meant mine was £94! With hp it is to address cheaper eu prices, no idea why they can't just reduce them like in other countries though.

I'm slightly confused by this. Are you saying TESCO were trying to rip you off? Wouldn't that be the other way round then with them telling you there was cashback, but actually there wasn't?
In any case its not like the staff are on commission so I would have thought they would err on the side of caution. So what you are saying is you got a much better deal than the person in the shop suggested you would? That sounds OK to me.
Unfortunately there will be some people that have not claimed the cashback, but you could look at it from the perspective they were obviously happy to pay the price in the first place.

I am not saying Tesco are trying to rip me off, I asked about the cash back offer only to be told by Tesco staff that it had finished two weeks earlier, the following week I went into the same store and found out through another customer that it was still ongoing, the Samsung website confirms that the offer does not finish until tomorrow, make of it what you will.

I doubt Tesco were trying to rip you off in such an overt way. It's just that their staff, particularly with regard to non food sections, usually haven't got a clue. Hence rubbish customer service.

But the tesco staff aren't obligated to know or advise about the finer details of a promotion they aren't running.

As stated earlier hp run similar promotions, and many retailers don't even know if they qualify. Thanks always say to ask hp if in doubt as it's their promotion. Also hp keep extending the promotion, but don't always inform retailers.

If anything tesco may be losing sales due to not mentioning the cash back exists.

Yet they seem capable of saying it is finished as per the OP.

Just poor subject knowledge and hence poor customer service. As seems to be the norm nowaday.
